I think his mind was elsewhere in his last season to be fair with his wife having cancer and understandably so

He should retire his methods are terribly outdated now

Not sure what he would bring to the table.
While he recruited some good players he did get a fair amount to spend and he left Celtic with an ageing squad.

When I read Sutton's Biography (I think it was his) I got the impression O'Neill just picked the team and gave motivational talks, Sutton said the players were good enough they just figured it out on the pitch what needed done to win.

Kinda annoying to hear that, cause tbh they didn't always do what was needed to win, more than a few near misses and glorious failures in that era. Makes you wonder if a more hands on approach could of been the difference between a uefa cup and another league title or two :(.

Naw it doesn't. If he hadn't bought the players he did and managed the way he did I would is more likely we wouldn't have got to a European final and won as many trophies as we did.

In that era he was a fantastic manager. Think we were lucky to have him and his coaching team.

I think if you asked pretty much any member of those squads they would say Martin O'Neill was a fantastic man manager.

    Would you disagree ?

Main rivals NOT using dodgy tax fiddles to employ unaffordable players AND referees without an agenda and we WOULD have won a couple more league titles...

Nothing to do with the manager or his ‘style’.

EBTs didn't help Alec McLeish discover you could play a 443.

Being popular with your players is one thing and man management is another. He was a great manager for Celtic but not perfect. Had a good spell with Villa afterwards as well.

Our 12th man has always been in the seats/terraces.... as opposed to ’on the pitch’.

He was of course one of only 2 Celtic managers to get us to a European Final, that alone is a superb achievement.
