That wasn't a header on goal, it was another poor first touch.

he was pretty good yesterday the time he was on, played like he had a bee in his bonnet

now if you could get that attitude and performance from him regularly then you can see why he has been bought for huge amounts of money at a young age

this guy has got to be playing regularly

i wonder if like a lot young highly thought of stars hes had too much to soon and its actually inhibited his growth as a footballer ?

As an athlete he is unreal.

As a footballer! If he had a first touch he would be excellent.

I just wonder if it was him who said to Lenny at Ibrox “Brendan never shouted at us”

Think both of these are true. He is very much a confidence player and needs to be playing regularly to get the best out of him, to have the trust in himself to do what he is capable of. When he is in and out of the side, whatever side that is, it knocks that belief as the uncertainty of knowing if he is gonna play or not clouds his thoughts, constantly worried and looking over his shoulder, whether it is true or not, always that doubt lingers if the manager trusts him or not.

As for the second part, that could be said for most footballers nowadays; that they believe their own hype and some don't thnk that it is something that they need to constantly work at to get better but think that what they have done in the past and what they are doing is good enough. Quite simply, skill alone is not always enough, just as speed is an attribute but doesn't mean that Usain Bolt could make it as a footballer either. And why some work as hard in their 30's as they did in their teens and 20's. Others think that once they have made it, then they've done all they have to. People spending absurd amounts of money on you, or paying you to kick a ball it's not hard to see why it can go to someone's head at a young age.

Whether this is Burke or not is open to conjecture but personally believe that it is a combination of all of these mindsets that is what currently underpins Burke and the question stands can he overcome these and realize the full potential that so many observers have witnessed glimpses and evidence of, and previous clubs have invested so much in, in the past.

But until then he will remain something of a mercurial figure. Capable of flashes of brilliance and speed, offset by lack of confidence and too often making poor decisions. But, that has always been the way of wingers especially, and forwards in general, really.

If he had a first touch he wouldn't have been at Celtic!

It's frustrating how someone can be so athletically gifted but so * at football.

Yet still be on paper, one Scotlands most expensive exports in the game.

If he could even match the skill of a Forrest he'd have been a * dream here. But as already said, if he had such a skill, he'd probably be in Germany still tearing it up and not warming the bench with us or West brom

I actually think most people are being overly critical with him. All he needs to do is fix his first touch and he'll be a top class player. Easier said than done, I know. But it is certainly something that can be improved if he practises every day.

Forrest had a poor touch when he first broke through. Scott Brown's passing was abysmal. Like those 2, with practise, he can easily overcome his weaknesses, assuming he works at it. He'll be an absolute weapon for Scotland when we are counter attacking teams

West Brom chief saying Lenny was disrespectful to Burke for not playing him enough. Just because your parent club is in England doesn't make you a starter. Daft *

I don’t think it’s just his first touch that needs fixed, although that make other aspects of his game better.

His decision making is really poor and he has a tendency to hide. I’m not talking about hiding from tackles or not putting himself about, but he hides from the ball in difficult areas of the pitch imo.

It’s entirely possible he goes on the be a decent player one day, but he’s going to take years to develop imo.

“FOLLOWING comments by West Bromwich Albion regarding Oliver Burke’s loan spell with Celtic in the second half of last season, the club has issued a statement.

‘These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate. West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.

‘As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity. We wish Oliver the very best for the future.’”

I'm all for post-game tactical analysis and think that's best delivered in a calm way a few days after the match but when players perform as poorly as they did in that game at Ibrox (him being one) then every now and again it's good to remind them that they are playing for Celtic Football Club not some pishy English Championship club that accepts mediocrity and defeat. Half-arsed performances should never become acceptable and there were more than a few during the rat's tenure.

Agreed. Perfectly reasonable response to them slating the professionalism of our manager and our club.

If they had any issues surely they would address them directly with us rather than * to the press about it?
