Really? It’s always struck me as weird, Jason Scotland getting knocked back for one then getting an English one was always a weird one.

Especially because he’d already played in Scotland.

Then he got one when he was past it for Hamilton.

It’s a bizarre one. Can remember WGS saying that it’s hopeless for us with it.

We got one for Wanyama, Kouassi, Bayo, Mizuno etc. I think it's the same process regardless of continent

    Yip.

Even if it was harder, there was a mental stat a couple of years back where something like 60% of Argentine footballers in South America were eligible for European passports, mainly Spanish and Italian, and wouldn’t even need a work permit.

    * knows mate, I looked into it years ago but don’t know if things have changed.

Is there not someone like that in the Premiership just now who can’t play even though he also has a Spanish passport? I’m sure I read this the other day but the name escapes me... was one of the smaller clubs?

Is it the Wolves player? If it then it’s compliacted because he’s half Chinese and would have to renounce his Chinese citizenship to get another passport.

I only saw the U20 Italy game 26/5. Even though Italy won 1-0 this lad was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch. Really good touch and vision and you'd feel him hit you. Would be a great signing.

Aye but Mizuno was player of the year and the rest were all playing in Europe. I haven’t a clue about the rules but I’m sure it’s harder for non-EU nationals and players who haven’t had caps yet etc

I dont think playing in Europe makes a difference as the rest of Europe has different laws in terms of work permits. The player is automatically accepted if they've played an x% of games for their national team, providing their national team is within the top, whatever number it is, of the world rankings.

If they don't meet that criteria is automatically gets knocked back and we have to appeal. In the event of an appeal we have to present a case for why that player would be a valuable addition to football in Scotland. Often they look at things like, are they a future international, letters of recommendation etc.

I dont think playing in europe beforehand comes into it.

Wasn’t aware that’s how it all works, I just assumed if they were playing in Europe it would be proof to the SFA that they could have the potential to do well for Scottish football. :50:
