Even if we were signing him on a bosman, it would still be too much.

When I first read that I thought you meant you’d rather we spent £5m on DD (Dion Dublin) for CB over McKenna and I agree with that more than your actual post

ABERDEEN have knocked back a domestic record £5million bid from Celtic for stopper Scott McKenna.

SunSport understands the Dons are refusing to budge from their £10m valuation of the Scotland star.

Last summer they blanked a £3.5m attempt by Celtic to grab the 22-year-old — and a £7m offer from Aston Villa.

Hull City and Swansea City have also been rebuffed in the past, with Pittodrie chiefs adamant they have no need to sell the powerful stopper.

McKenna is under contract until 2023 and boss Derek McInnes believes it’s inevitable he will go eventually — but only on the Reds’ terms.

Celtic are anxious to strengthen their central- defensive options following the end-of-season departures of Dedryck Boyata, loan man Filip Benkovic and the versatile Mikael Lustig.

Among others on a target list are Toulouse’s Christopher Jullien and Chelsea’s Tomas Kalas.

Celtic splashed out the current biggest domestic transfer fee in 2007 — £4.4m to Hibs for Scott Brown — and it remains to be seen if they’ll go higher for McKenna.

Boss Neil Lennon yesterday admitted bolstering central defensive options is key for next season.

He said: “It’s a priority area we’re looking to strengthen, no question. And we have a number of options that we’re running with at the minute.”

I'd be * off if I was him. £5m bid. Big wages, sign on fee, bigger team, potentially costing him a few million in wages. Thank * Aberdeen are stubborn :56:

Any actual evidence/source that we did bid?

Give the club some benefit, don't think they will have. They know fine well what that backlash will be.

However, if we are, * me aren't they scouting anyone. A year since this first came up and we are potentially still trying to get this done? No one else to chase for £5million?

They are absolutely right to stick to their valuation. Is he worth it? Not a chance.
