Mikael Lustig

This interview with Swedish press the other day points in that direction, along with ongoing contract negotiations being mentioned by both BR and NL throughout the season.

Are you disappointed with the club?
– The club for me is the fans – and the players who do the job and the leaders around. There I have nothing but good to say.
Disappointed at the club management?
– No comments.
You don’t stay at Celtic?
– You should never say never. I love that club and never thought I would feel such a love for a club. So I will never close that door.
But then they have to replace the club management first?
– Absolutely not. The only thing I said was that it could be handled differently; what has happened and what has been said.

 

If we don't make sure Lustig stays it's very poor business. I don't criticise the board much cause the season tickets keep getting sold and the fans who buy them are much more in the know than me. It just feels too much like Brexit, something people want but don't know what to do next when it happens. Folk seem to want us to release Lustig but don't know what to do after that.

All the sentimental pish can gtf, football is one of the shortest careers, players are always going to leave but they should leave when they stop having a positive affect for us. Lustig is much more positive than the negative what do we do now Ralston and Hendry are our backups. Oh you don't * say

 

I think he should stay. Getting 2 right backs in will be tough and sadly Ralston isn't up to the job yet and needs a loan out.

 

Exactly, there's no romance about it. We're all here because we want the best for the team. Just can't understand this throwing the baby out with the bathwater psychology.

 

Not sure that’s the case. It’s pretty simple, we need to sign a first choice right back regardless. We’ve needed a left back since Adam Matthews left really. Personally don’t mind if lustig stays but honestly, if he does, it will be another excuse for the board not to strengthen that position.

 

I think everyone is in agreement we need a fresh quality RB. It's this desire to get rid of Lustig before we've replaced him that doesn't make sense.

You really think the board don't care at all about? Surely they would have intervened in a much more intentional manner before we won 8iar and a Treble Treble?

 

Adam Matthews is a right back and Tierney’s done no too bad there

Disappointing to hear. Would've liked him to stay as back up and to help the young guys. Shame that he won't be here for the 10 as he deserves it.

 

I genuinely don't even doubt that.

Just as long as it's more of a Bangura than a Berget in the end.

 

Happy he has got a decent club still, will play European football, and hopefully can get a winners medal domestically.

Guys been a great servant to the club, welcomed back with open arms, more so than most players. Guy took to us really well and I believe every Celtic fan enjoyed his time here.

He will know himself he isn't the same player we signed 8 years ago, but he still has something to offer to another team.

I know he's been a bit of a weak link this season, age catches up with all of us; but he hasn't been an absolute liability in the way that Izzy was. Izzy was a really good LB for us in his day with a fantastic assists record too. It really hurt to see him like that.

I'm genuinely relieved I won't have to see Lustig reach that point. Thanks for the memories, big man. It was time, but he'll be missed.

I always rated and thought a lot more of Lustig than Izzy personally anyway..
