I never said we are paying 3 million. Celtic will be trying to get him for less because of the loan deal. It does sound as if the player would prefer this to going down south.

Wouldn’t NL be able to clarify that?!?
Has he said anything on that one?

Can see precisely another McGinn episode here .. if the Bournemouth interest is genuine then they can offer him wages that couldn’t/wouldn’t be matched. 3 million is just a ‘punt’ to them sadly..

We at least put a bid in. If it's not enough we up the bid. If it's not accepted we move on. It really is that simple.
I'm not gonna get into the media's Summer campaign of brilliant Sevco, * Celtic. It's the only game they've got right now. Our season does not hinge on the signing of one player. If he misses out, someone else gets a shot.

In terms of signing before the window, isn't it just a gentleman's agreement, the sort that Hibs reneged on last season?

Maybe you go in, say we'll pay £3million and they get on the phone to Brighton and also keep them informed.
Brighton offer 3.2 million, another team comes in after asking to be kept informed. So on and so on.

What Celtic are maybe asking for is, if we make the acceptable offer, will you accept it or use it to push the price up even higher. This is maybe the problem and why you wait until Tuesday, when agreements become contracts.

Ffs stop going on about Tuesday! That’s like saying Hazard needs to wait to Thursday in Spain, the deal is done its legally binding its just ratified on the TMS when the official window opens! That’s why he is being presented on Thursday!

Teams can sign players on legally binding terms out with windows it just isn’t ratified by fifa until they open the TMS to the association!

Same would be case with turnbull we could sign him tonight and he is our player but fifa wouldn’t recognise it to Tuesday!

Doesn't change all that much pal, it's Sunday. If it's a deal worth £150million it's an entirely different kind of deal. What are the chances of someone outbidding? These clubs like Motherwell have produced good talent but i think we're getting a wee bit carried away with freaking out about a player that hasn't transferred anywhere and so far it's between Celtic and Bristol City. I think personally you're all getting worried over nothing, and yes in every window a player ends up changing his mind last minute, it happens. It can happen again but it's not any problem designed by Celtic. All we're trying to do is offer more money than anyone else did, and then magically afterwards another team matched our bid.
Then the price goes up, funny that eh.
We should be patient and see how it unfolds rather than freak out about something that has not happened yet.

What's embarrassing exactly? A story in a paper? The same papers we criticise constantly for being lying biased *.

The only embarrassing thing is the * rage on here for something that hasn't happened yet.

If he was coming from the English championship or even their 1st division, he'd be regarded as a bargain. Turnbull may have only played half a season at Motherwell but he's been talked about in glowing terms for at least a couple of years. He will become a really good player and a definite Scotland international. We should sign him, even if we've to pay £3m, it should be viewed as investment. I'd like us to sign him and loan him back to Motherwell for next season.

We should have gotten McGinn, but that fiasco doesn't give every Scottish Club carte blanche to use us as a lever to attract clubs from England by leaking our interest to the media.
I'm not blaming Motherwell or any other club for trying to cash in on their assets, as foreign agents do it too. Seems we scout and get linked and then the players agents leak our interest and the player gets a more lucrative deal, that's the business.
What we should be doing is submitting reasonable first bids and if that is unsuccessful move on to the next target until they come back to us.

Get realistic bids in quickly and be known as a Club who gets things done swiftly and professionally. Seems Clubs know they can toy with us until a better bid comes in. Transfers become frustrating sagas, in general.

Our new head of recruitment needs installing urgently and hopefully we see a change of direction when it comes to transfers.

I’m not adverse to getting the lad in. However, it’s tad depressing that the summer transfer season will probably reach a crescendo and culminate in us finally dragging this deal over the line. That, combined with unrealistic, over inflated English targets that we have “scouted” and it really makes you wonder what kind of Mickey Mouse set up we have going on behind the scenes at Celtic.

Motherwell Football Club has reached an agreement with Celtic FC for the potential transfer of David Turnbull.

The academy graduate has been given permission to speak to the club. Should the deal go through, the value of the transfer will vastly exceed our previous record fee received.

We have rejected several seven-figure offers for David in recent weeks, with clubs the length and breadth of the UK speaking to us about him. It is clear from that the fee we stand to receive fully maximises his potential value.

We have continued to stand by what we believe is a fair value for David. In light of the negotiating stance we have adopted, the money we stand to receive will be transformational for us as we continue to operate as a fan-owned club.
