Anyone listened to the podcast that goes along with the show ? The creator is one of the hosts. Haven't had the chance to listen to them yet but it's getting great reviews aswell.

A lot of new impressive titles score very high early on, but the overall score slowly drops as more people vote. However, I'd say it's more than deserving of being in the 9's, so far.

Aye it's only got about 40,000 votes so far and it's only a mini series so it obviously can't be compared to the top tv shows but I've yet to see one bad review so far.

Reddit is all over it and the writer has spent alot of time on the Chernobyl subreddit talking to fans of the show. Not something you see often. He obviously is far too talented to be writing * "comedies".

    Agree with the weird accents!

But by * all those men and woman sent to their deaths!

Russian covering up and killing their own like the did with the submarine a few years back.

Claiming the readings on the decimetre where 3.6 when I fact they where 15,000!!!!

People dying within a week. It’s scary as *!

To bury those people in clear sealed bags, then boxes then lead lines coffins and welded shut steel coffins and then bury them 60ft deep and fill with lead and concrete * *!

    Can’t wait for episode 4 and 5!

It’s good but it’s far from the best thing I’ve seen. Those ratings always happen early on on IMDB, it soon levels out.

My goodness, episode 4 was brutal.:55:

In case anyone is interested in somewhat related (albeit slowly built/presented) content, there's a great documentary on "The Babushkas of Chernobyl" (not sure if it's regionally available, but I get it in the States via Amazon Prime):

    https://thebabushkasofchernobyl.com

Really presents a unique sense of 'home'...obviously, most of this is in Russian, with subtitles... ;)

Also a decent documentary on the topic. Lines up pretty well with this series:

Lastly, for any minimal synth fans, this song perfectly captures the mood of this series:

Where can I watch this? Can't seem to find HBO on my iptv thing.

Thought it would have been added to the playlist or something.

OK - you have to realize this is a DRAMA and while much of it is very realistic & true, there is also a lot of stretch in this series to enhance that drama

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster

It is undoubtedly a disaster of HUGE proportions and consequences but you can compare the numbers (and timescale) above with how its being portrayed in the series.
I'm certainly not trying to trivialize what happened, or the long term issues that affected thousands - just that you must remain cognizant that this is a drama, not a documentary.

There was no single character as per that played by Emily Watson - she is an amalgam of many researchers who were working on the cause and future prevention but it just makes for a more entertaining story to have her be a heroine.

Good book on the subject - this link has some extracts from it - https://books.google.com/books?id=7gQ0DwAAQBAJ&pg=PT299#v=onepage&q&f=false

    Now some of it was very close to the truth - Lyudmila's story for example is pretty accurate and the animal extermination squads (although many domestic animals survived and their descendents still populate the area today!) really did happen;
be sure to read the part about the bodies "buried in concrete" - again close, but stretched. TWO bodies were buried in a Moscow cemetery in zinc coffins with cement tiles covering the graves - not quite the mass grave with the concrete truck filling it with liquid pour portrayed in the show.

Having said all that, I am definitely enjoying this series and its well worth the watch - and it made me actually research some of the actual history of it all, which I have also enjoyed.

Great ending to this miniseries! One of the better ones I've seen.

To the previous points made in the thread, yes, there is some dramatization throughout the series but this last episode explains this a bit. Plus, the podcast does go into great detail about the embellishments, inclusions, exclusions, etc.:

I have it on my dodgy box. It’s in ‘tv series’ then just type in the name.

I started to listen to that - interesting enough, but listening to those guys drone on for about an hour in each one was excruciating - I gave up after 20 mins of the first one. Can't see spending 5 hrs just listening to audio in conversational style.
I'm sure there is a lot of good content in it, too bad it wasn't just boiled down to 10 mins or so with just the salient points.

In one go I could definitely see that being a bit much. :76: I ended up listening to the corresponding podcast right after each episode, so it was less drawn out and more digestible.

Cracking series but nowhere close to being the best show ever.
