    Right,

So conviently booked my 2006 car in to the garage tomorrow for a service. Been on my mind the past week or two and finally today/yesterday I started to hear a gargling noise as I accelerated. Annoyed me and thought perhaps oil related as last time I looked it was low. (Hence on my mind).

Alas, a part fell off half way home along the m8 this evening, something was hanging off under the car (about where the driver seat is). Wasn't a metal part, more a cable or plug or something.

Anyway, finally got it home/to the garage (booked in first thing tomorrow) by driving like a pansy all the way home with the hazards.

Had a proper look and the old man came to check as well, sounds very much like the exhaust has got a hole/broke or the likes. Sound is definitely coming from the front end, so either there or the middle section of the exhaust, not the tail end.

Anyone any advice on these things? More so expected costs/shocks?

It's in for a service regardless and I'm on the opinion this would have happened regardless now, so it's an expense I'll need to suck up.

Will also be with the mechanics regardless as well, although I don't want to be mugged off, I'm also not very well in a position on a bank holiday weekend and mechanics only working half day Saturdays to be shopping around.
So hopefully they are fairly priced and all that.

So you're the * that caused the tailbacks on the M8?

Haha, almost did man. But thankfully not me tonight.
I'm a smarter lad than that, safely on to the hard shoulder, checked the car over and got off the motorway safely. No backup at all. Unlike some idiots on that road.
    Yeah and no.

Know two who could, but one lives other side of Scotland and the other is away for now (holiday).

Need it on road asap, so cost will need to be what it is. Been googling it, think I should be okay on price so long as they don't rip me off

How much you willing to spend mate if you don’t mind me asking

Like the poster above said the part won’t be expensive but fitting it could be.

If you’ve got any mates work colleagues etc who know a bit about cars they would do it for a decent price

400 all in (service as well) and I would certainly start questioning it.
From what I see from googling could be anywhere from 130-250 I think for part and fitting.

I could be way out here though.

Overall the cars in decent nick to be fair, for its age.
At some point will need to get a newer model

front bit of exhaust will be a gasket and 4 bolts , centre section gasket to join to front section and back box with clamps ,back box once joined to centre section will just connect to the floor with thae thick rubber hangers/bushs .

you only need to replace the section with the hole , sounds complicated but its no .

Aye 400 should be more than enough I’d think. Anything over 350 there ripping you off.

Aye sounds fairly simple to me, my paranoia (of worst case scenario) is the fault has happened in two sections.
What do the rubber hanger/bushes look like? I'm thinking perhaps that could be what I saw hanging off and is now laying on the m8 just between junction 22 and 23 west bound ha

    Including the service you reckon?

What kind of car and where are you about?

Maybe someone will recommend a trustworthy garage in your area that will be good. Sadly good garages are few are far between.

It's impossible to guess from your description what the issue is.

What I will say is don't run your car low on oil. For the sake of £10-15 for some oil it's not worth risking your engine.

The oil part is a sound bit of advice,it's been at back of my mind and for a car of its age, should have been smarter about it.

It's a 2006 Toyota and I'm over paisley Renfrew way.

Yeah shouldn’t be more 300 ish
I reckon. Had similar issue myself a couple years back and got all parts and service for 200. I got a bit cheaper cause a had been using the garage for years for MOT and plenty of regular work

    235 it cost me.

That's full service, fixed a slow puncture and my handbreak and the main issue from yesterday was a corroded lambda sensor, which is the part I saw hanging off and came off completely on the m8.

All in, happy enough with that. They've given me a few advisories and priced it for me (sump pump being main thing) and I'll take this on board along with the general advice on here about maybe sourcing a mate to do the labour as such.

Just a question mate. Are you with AA Breakdown.
Reason i am asking is if you are with AA breakdown then you can add Breakdown Repair cover.
This will help with repair costs.
How it works - If you have a breakdown that needs repair you report it to AA and take it to a garage that you want as long as AA agree.
Pay £35 excess and you are covered up to £500 cost including parts and labour.
I had a coolent system failure in my Merc C200 and all it cost was the excess of £35 instead of £450 which it would have cost if not covered by the breakdpwn repair cover.

Aye this is exactly what I had to do as well, easy enough. Tyre and Exhaust place should be able to do it for a decent price if required also

I would imagine for a 2006 Toyota there would be a massive excess, if they would cover it, even if it had fsh & only done 5,000 miles.

Doesnt matter how old it is and it's only £35 excess no matter what needs done.
