12/13 is by a mile our best European campaign of the last decade. Smashed past Helsinki & Helsingborg in qualifiers, beat Spartak Moscow home & away, Barca only beat us at the Nou Camp with a 94th min punt into the box, and of course beat Barca at home.

IF by some miracle our board have got the finger out and lined up Benitez for example...

Even if he leaves Newcastle ... he is contracted until end of June.... that’s ok if he’s off somewhere with no European football or no qualifiers.... but Celtic need a man in by end of May to get to work.

Would Celtic have to buy out the last month? Would Ashley just hold him to it (if * off) if he wants to go to ANY other club ?

And to be fair, it will continue to be our best campaign until something radically changes about Scottish football or European tournament set ups. Neither of which seem that likely.

If that was all of our starting XI giving 100% effort then we're in huge trouble.

1 result? Come on man. He finished 2nd in the group beating Spartak home and away, Barca at home and drawing with Benfica. We had never won an away game in the champions league before that. The following season ok wasn't great but we were not embarrased although 3-0 defeat at home to Milan was very poor. But Rodgers had some terrible results in Europe. Truly awful. Letting in 7 at PSG and Barca were horrific tactical performances. 5 at home to PSG was one of the worst nights I have ever been to at Parkhead. Bayern beat us with less than half a team. Really apart from the Man City game we were hopeless at home in the Champions league under him. Bit better in the Europa this year but still well beaten by the two top teams we came up against.

As @Seán Mac D said I feel Rodgers had us beat before we stepped on the park, just look at his last European game for us. València were there to be opened up and he leaves it until the last stages of the tie to change it.

Putting Lennon’s achievements down to one result is embarrassing, undeserving of a guy who’s given a huge amount to the club and cheap.

I could go into detail about how his achievements in Europe on a much smaller budget and after inheriting one of the worst Celtic squads in my lifetime far surpass Rodgers in Europe, but there’s really no need. Both managers had their strengths, and punching above our weight in Europe was Lennon’s.

The CL groups which Lennon got were far far easier than what Rodgers had. You’d be jumping for joy if we got a group of that standard in the CL now.

Which game other than the Barca game do you think we punched above our weight?

I would have us in the same weight class as Rennes and Spartak.

So you are saying we couldn't get those groups now because the "competition" has changed but if we did get that group ,which we never could we would be happy aye ?"
