Bilic seems like one of those that is suited to be an international manager rather than club.

Could be a great fit for the Scotland job right enough. Shouldn't be anywhere near us though.

Agree with the above post. I like Bilic but I don’t rate him too highly as a club manager, at least.

Might have been poor at Fenerbache but his PsV team was excellent and scored loads of goals.

Fenerbahçe's problems are well-documented. I think that his time at PSV is a better indication of his abilities.

The whole wagner situation is 6 of one/ half a dozen of the other.

Achieving promotion to the epl with that huddersfield team was indeed "a miracle". As others have rightly said, they had absolutely no right to be there, and were headed for relegation to league 1.

Some prominent huddersfield fans themselves were quoted as saying their "promotion came to soon" and they "werent ready for it".

Achieving survival in the epl was seen as nothing short of another "miracle".

HOWEVER... his stats in the epl, cant be ignored. Lack of goals, lack of a goal scorer, lack of resources? Who knows.

What we do know is that somewhere along his journey with huddersfield, it got too much for him. A wee peek on fan forums does more than suggest that he frankly ran out of ideas after his summer signings fell flat and he had to basically jettison not only them but the tactics he intended to utilise with them (signed 5 wingers and then switched to a formation that didnt use wingers).

He left huddersfield to great applause, there was however an underlying tone of " we could and should be doing much better".

It was a thanks for memories but time marches on goodbye. More of the same epl arrogance or pragmatism... financial disparity says arrogance, his stats say pragmatism.

Again, everything about wagner is 6 of one/ half a dozen of the other. Even huddersfield fans in hindsight cant find a consensus as to whether his defensive possession based football was pragmatism or rigid adherence to a philiosophy that was both unattactive footballing wise and destined to failure.

But facts are facts. One major consensus shared between all huddersfield fans and media pundits alike is that they were in dire need of goals. And that despite his miracles, moses himself wouldnt have been able to split a defence open while wagner was playing his systems.

Given the bizarre and extremley opaque circumstances of his tenure at huddersfield its very difficult to predict what type of football he could bring here. Would he adopt to the celtic way and go and blow teams away domestically whilst being tactically pragmatic in europe? Or would we see a defensive minded borefest... * knows.

One thing is for certain. His appointment would be a gamble. How much of a gamble is open to a million interpretations.

I think Huddersfield just didn't have it in them to prepare and survive the pressure of the prem, they were ultimately a victim of their own success.

Wagner I think might be the best of what we can realistically get, unless we somehow work a * * miracle and use money wisely and somehow snag a prize equal to a Benetiz or Rodgers.

Whoever it is, the later it's announced the less time they have to prepare for our biggest season to date

What Wagnar did even getting Huddersfield up was nothing short of a miracle considering they had absolutely * all in resources and a gash side on paper even compared to Championship teams, they were one of the favs to be relegated, but to then to keep them up in the Prem warranted manager of the year for me it, saying all that Id rather pursue other options just based off his possession hungry football which can be a chore to watch

    Steffen Baumgart being mentioned now.

No chance the board would have the balls to appoint him but happy we at least seem to be keeping an eye on people like him.

ODDS have tumbled on German boss Steffen Baumgart taking charge at Celtic Park.

Neil Lennon still remains favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers on a permanent basis at 1/2.

But Baumgart – who manages Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn 07 – has emerged as a surprise contender with bookies.

Punters have been rushing to place their money on the 47-year-old to be appointed into the Parkhead hotseat.

And that’s forced Sky Bet to slash their odds to 18/1, placing him in the top ten candidates for the position.

Baumgart led Paderborn to promotion last season and his side currently sit third in the second tier – just two points behind second-placed Hamburg.

Baumgart, who previously bossed minnows FC Magdeburg and Berliner AK 07, is highly-rated in his homeland.

But his appointment would come as a major surprise to Celtic fans, who are craving a big name replacement for Double Treble winning Rodgers.

It would also represent a major gamble from Parkhead chiefs, with Celts two titles away from an unprecedented ten-in-a-row.

However, Peter Lawwell has appointed an unknown before, when Ronny Deila took over from Lennon in 2014.

Other names in the mix include Belgium gaffer Roberto Martinez (5/1), Andre Villas-Boas (8/1) and Newcastle’s Rafa Benitez (8/1).

Killmarnock boss Steve Clarke is priced at 10/1, while Northern Ireland manager is an outsider at 12/1

Celtic and the game have moved on since Lennon was last here, his direct approach is awful to watch and he's trying to implement it in a team that has next to zero aerial threat.

I'd be delighted with Wagner, think he'd get some decent players in and play some decent football.

Because he and Deila take a similar approach to man management, player recruitment, sports science, youth development, and coaching?

Because he and Deila have comparable leadership skills, tactical knowledge, and personalities?

Or just because he and Deila are young, foreign managers?

Supposedly big Elvis has gone into the bookies running. Don’t know how successful he’s been over the last few years - think he was in Cyprus for a while.
