A class footballer and an even better role model for the Academy boys.

Champions League level midfielder. Should give the guys from Henderson and McInroy all the way down to the under single digits a shining beacon to follow.

That’s a given McGregor and Tierney will be targeted.

Wether either players has the respect for the * the way he left and desire to go from playing for their boyhood club they support to playing mid level EPL is another matter!

If they do then it’s £30m each minimum when you are seeing Liam * Lindsay rated at £5m down there!

Callum McGregor hopes Celtic make a sharp decision on their next manager.

The midfielder and his team-mates go into Sunday’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen under the guidance of interim boss Neil Lennon.

As yet, the Irishman has not been confirmed as the full-time successor to Brendan Rodgers having been hired on a short-term basis when his compatriot fled for Leicester City six weeks ago.

And, although McGregor has full confidence in the club’s mechanisms to ensure the right candidate is selected going into next season and the future, he says the squad would prefer a swift resolution.

With European qualifiers starting in the middle of July, the summer will be short with pre-season set to resume in the middle of June and the playmaker says it’s important for things to be settled going into 2019-20.

McGregor explained: “Obviously, the club have to get the appointment right.

Whatever way they want to go about that and get it done, but the players and staff and everyone around the club want to know as soon as possible so you have the continuity going into next season.

Whatever the board decides, as soon as the players find out, it calms everyone down.

“It gives the club a focus. The new season comes pretty quickly. You only have three to four weeks off and then it’s straight back into the big games again.

"The sooner it is done the better for everyone.”

McGregor insists the squad would be delighted if Lennon keeps the job and admits the current squad can play a big role in making that happen by securing more success before the end of this term.

He added: “His track record at Celtic as a manager has been outstanding.

“There’s not been many better in Europe and in league football as well. He has to have a case to get it.

“If you see the success with [Ole-Gunnar] Solskjaer at Man Utd, people were talking about if they get into the top four he will get the job

People will, ultimately, judge you on success.

“If we manage to do it then he has a great shout. And he would have deserved it all as well.”

If the players are all behind Lennon then they need to start showing that on the pitch because so far it's been very underwhelming

Himself and Forrest both seem flogged. They both need a rest. It is very hard to leave McGregor out though.

I understand that the players are human and this can affect them to a certain degree, but they have a League title and a cup to play for, that in itself has to be an incentive or act as motivation to get them to perform. ?

I would rest Forrest next week, I think it would be good all round. There's no replacement for McGregor though.

    Agreed..

It's why we saw a bounce in adversity when the snake walked out with 2 away wins late on, adrenaline and a defiance playing a huge part, as well as starting well against the huns and the sheep semi..

Game's like the latter 2 particularly shouldn't need any extra motivation..

It's clear to me though that our run of the mill domestic game's by and large, we're going through the motions with a fair few player's.....which is unacceptable..

McGregor works best from behind a number 10! He's a smashing tidy player but not as influential as everyone makes out!

He needs a break easily, and if we win against Killie at the weekend i'd 100% rest him against Aberdeen. Christie's injury came at the worst time to be honest.

Does look tired, think his best position is in front of the back 4 building up play.

He is at his most influential when he’s lying deep.. when Rogic came on he was finding him with ease..

McGregor to Rogic to Forrest to Edouard into the net.. is the key, simple passes.
