Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini claims Moise Kean abuse was not racist, as “if Federico Bernardeschi had celebrated like that, he would’ve been treated exactly the same way.”

The 2-0 home defeat to Juventus was overshadowed by ugly scenes after Kean’s goal at the 85th minute, as he reacted to jeers that had been aimed in his direction throughout the match by celebrating with arms outstretched in front of the ultras.

This sparked even louder and very clearly racist chants from that section of the crowd, which then spread to his teammates Blaise Matuidi and Alex Sandro.

“If Bernardeschi had celebrated like that, he would’ve been treated exactly the same way by our fans. If Dybala had the same drama queen antics after the goal that Matuidi did, he would’ve been treated exactly the same way,” Giulini told Sky Sport Italia, during an angry row with pundit Lele Adani.

“I don’t want people to start being self-righteous about it, because I heard that already, whereas Juventus players came to me afterwards and confessed Kean was wrong to celebrate that way.

“We cannot go around calling the entire Cagliari crowd offensive things. If there were racist jeers, then our fans got it wrong, but it happened because of the celebration and would’ve happened even if the goalscorer had a different colour of skin.

“All I heard were whistles and jeers, but if you with your microphones picked up a few isolated racist insults, then of course those were wrong, but there’s no need to be self-righteous about it and cast a shadow over the entire Cagliari fanbase or the club.”

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci claimed Moise Kean had to shoulder “50-50 blame” for racist abuse from Cagliari fans.

The striker scored in the final minutes at the Sardegna Arena and his celebration saw him stand in front of the ultras behind the goal, hands outstretched, almost challenging those who had jeered him.

That prompted even louder and far clearer racist abuse, which before that had been from only a handful of fans.

Bonucci ran over and was one of the first on the scene trying to pull Kean away, while Blaise Matuidi was visibly furious.

“Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he has to focus on celebrating with his teammates. He knows he could’ve done something differently too,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

“There were racist jeers after the goal, Blaise heard it and was angered. I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn’t have done that and the Curva should not have reacted that way.

“We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone.

“I prefer to talk about the great performance. We were aggressive on the wings, as we knew they could cause problems with crosses.

“We knew Cagliari do zonal marking and leave that gap open, so we’d practiced in training yesterday and it worked out perfectly.”

What a * clown. Allegri should fine him a weeks wages and drop him from the squad. Italian football needs to sort its * out. Cagliari have been racially abusing players for years, as well as other sets of fans. No more wee fines, start closing stadiums, find these arseholes and ban them for life.

Fair play to Kean, though. Had to listen to it for the whole game then answered them back in the best way. He's a cracking talent.

It's big problem in Italian society in general. I remember in the 90's Millwall were * notorious for making monkey noises you would hear it every game. Everton and Charton were quite bad at one point in the early 90's as well as were a lot of clubs, a lot of Europe still stuck in the dark ages.
