    Brendan Rodgers has dashed Celtic’s hopes of keeping Filip Benkovic.

    Rodgers signed Croatian stopper Benkovic for Celtic on a season-long loan from Leicester last summer.



    It followed a £13million move from Dinamo Zagreb to the Premier League outfit last August.

    Benkovic has impressed with Hoops, making 24 appearances since joining the Parkhead outfit on deadline day.

    Celtic would have been keen to see the 21-year-old return for next season but Rodgers, who has of course seen plenty of the player at close quarters, has now confirmed the defender will return to the King Power Stadium.

    He said: “The whole plan for him was to get him game time.

    “We took him up to Celtic which was a huge club with big pressures to play. He has done very well.
    All the loan players will look to come back and then we will decide where we will go from there.”

    Benkovic had been out of action since suffering an injury in a 3-0 win over Hamilton in January but returned on Sunday in Celtic’s win at Dundee on Sunday.

    Was never likely to be able to get Benkovic to extend the loan deal, but even the slim chance of that happening died when BR left and went down to LCFC.

    I wonder if the same will happen with Burke, that manager who took over West Brom last season never played him even in the Championship this season when they went down and then he was sacked last week. Might have * us for keeping Burke especially if they don't get promoted as Burke has already done the business in the Championship before and another manager would likely use him.

    I think our chances of getting burke has improved with a there new manager. The last manager would occasionally pop up to remind everyone it's a loan and he would be going back. I don't think I have read anything similar since that manager left. All ifs and buts I guess. But we are potentially better place to land Burke now

    Wouldn't bother playing him or Boyata again. Ajer and Jozo for the rest of the season give them a chance to build a partnership for the Champions league qualifiers.
