Aye. He's also no very tall for a keeper as a presence..

It defies belief that a team like us can't take a corner..

I'm sure there was stats where we had the worst conversion rate in the whole league :56:

Even pish side's all over the lower league's do damage from corners. Practicing every day and hitting the first man constantly..

    No quality, nevermind variation..

Aye scored a few big goals from corners..

Wanyama (Barca), Ledley and Mulgrew (Huns) spring to mind.

Kenny Miller used to do that a lot I noticed..

Would run over and get it going quickly with a winger for club or country..

Our team is quite small so not a massive surprise we don’t score a lot from them, even the big guys like Ajer, Rogic and Edouard arent the best in the air.

Back when we were decent at them we had Lustig, VVD, Denayer, Mulgrew, Wanyama, Samaras and even Ledley was a threat.

Now we have a only really have Boyata, Lustig and Benko.

It's also worth remembering out that we've never punched above our weight in the CL without carrying some threat from corners and free kicks on set-pieces (at least not in my memory). Even under MON (and with the calibre of player we had then, I don't even class our home record then as punching above our weight TBH) we had a real threat from set-pieces.

I know finding an affordable Thommo, Lubo or Naka is easier said than done; but surely we can at least find the new Mulgrew.

You don't even need to go down the road of building a massive team: I know I harp on about it too much, but for all their great pressing and deadly countering, Salzburg had me bricking it every time they had a corner.

I think we sometimes forget what a decent player he was, because he was such a *. Morelos not withstanding, even a completely past it Kenny Miller caused us more problems than any other Sevco player in their history so far IMO.

Good point RR, if you’re a danger from corners it gives the crowd a boost when you get one.. essential when playing CL football when we have less possession than a high calibre side.

    True..

For anything he lacked in quality, he made up for with cleverness on the pitch..

We should try to vary them more in that case.. maybe look to play short to Forrest, not many defenders relish going one v one against him.

Definitely need to try something different as it looks like Boyata, Lustig and Benkovic will be gone come the summer which leaves us with no aerial threat at all.

Just now we’d be better doing what Pep done at Barca and just taking a short corner and attacking from open play.

Getting a top set piece taker in the summer would make a bigger difference than a coach for me.

Im surprised more teams like ours and the top teams don't employ a "play" coach similar to NBA and NFL teams in America. You can clearly see teams who practise these regularly and often profit from doing so. They might not always result in a goal but at least it's trying something different to catch the opponent unaware or even set up a chance to have a shot/header at goal rather than lumping it into the box and hoping for the best.

If it's organised properly, I don't think that's too difficult or hard to do as there are so many variations, it can be a far more effective way of using set pieces. They can be vital in Europe where we may be under the kosh for the majority of the game, get a corner and sneak a goal. We need to certainly attempt something as surely it can't get any worse!
