Today on a big Forest walk up here in the Highlands was fustrating, missing my main targets.
But I did get some lovely Brambing, heard a Goshawk only and saw plenty of Crossbill and some Red Squirrels,on the mountain tops tomorrow.

Yesterday I did a big hill walk with Ruby Boxer, leaving early of course. Ruby enjoyed seeing close up a couple of still white Mountain Hare and a pair of Ptarmigan.
Also a fine male Ring Ouzel was seen very close by and a female Peregrine was noted.

At the weekend I spotted a Yellowhammer sitting on a fence post . I also witnessed something I've never seen before . It was a ploughed field being finished off with a tractor drawn harrow , and lots of Crows were feeding on the worms grubs etc . But there were no Gulls in sight , not a single one . That's unheard of in this area .

I saw a beautiful young deer this morning as I was at the top of the slip road from Bothwell on to the M74 on the left where a large “puddle” has become a pond with reeds etc.

I love seeing deer, it reminds me of my childhood where they roamed freely in our garden. Beautiful creatures.

Only ever seen them 2/3 times but Yellowhammers are stunningly beautiful little birds. Great spot mate.

    Yeah

Yes Yellowhammers are stunning birds indeed, with that classic song that the old country folk used to say “A little of bread and no cheese”

Well today my last full day on my latest Highland visit and I had a brilliant day. I walked a sizeable distance and more and on the way I got fine Wheatears, another Red Throated Diver on the local Loch.
Things got better with 3 splendid * Black Grouse,a female Merlin then at the end of the Glen amazing lengthy views of an * GOLDEN EAGLE:36:

What a bird, fantastic!!! Then I dropped down the Glen to a village and got a bus with Ruby Boxer of course and went to a cool sizeable Loch and got my first Osprey of the year.

That sounds like an amazing trip mate. I've saw a Golden Eagle a few times and still can't believe how beautiful they are. Wheatears are also beautiful birds.

Pretty yes... but hate the buggers coming through the garden (rather tricky as there’s a forest on one side)..

They are riddled with ticks and often carry lime disease which can be rather dodgy. Horrible wee bloodsucking parasites give me the shivers.

seen two wee birds this morning while working in a garden,i've never seen this species before and was amazed when they came flying down the garden right next to me and went into the hedge about 2 feet from where I was standing, they were tiny wee birds, one had a bright red head and when I googled bird i.d. turns out they were gold crests and the males crest turns orange/red during the mating season.

I've also been really close to Goldcrests mate. They don't seem to have a fear of humans, so they can get really close. Superb sighting mate.

My wife has asked me to stop moaning that Spring is here and Summer is not far away. Even the thought of moths and butterflies is terrifying to me. So in answer to your thoughts," No, it doesn't please me, good friend":56::56::56:

Set up a tropical fresh water tank recently.

    6 panda coy catfish
    12 neon tetras
    2 male guppies.

Used to have them when I was a kid but giving it another go. Forgot how much effort goes into
getting the water biome just right to ensure they are happy fish. Managed to get nitrates down to near 0, softened the water and declorinised it. So far so good.

Oh and a loan silent Willow Warbler was in my garden.
