This isn’t a new thing but we just need to avoid it outwith special circumstances. The likes of the deal with Dembele being the standout or even Boyata. Where we can use the compensation rules to our advantage.

Looking at being linked to Liam Lindsay for £5m is a perfect example of this, if he was any good, down there you’re priced at a good bit away from £5m. £5m is a small price for below average players down there.

For us? It’s a massive outlay. It just doesn’t make any sense to me why we would consistently try and compete with a market that we just can’t. I think most of us would know this, it fries my brain seeing lazy scouting over and over.

Much more excited by the likes of Shved but again, by all accounts we didn’t scout him, his agents scouted us.

    Fully agreed.

The ridiculous inflated prices down south mean its a market we should be activley avoiding.

Exploiting their compensation rules for young players is one thing. Trying to compete for bog standard players at at 50-75% mark up on their actual value is another.

I also truly believe we should be ignoring the scottish market too. Once in a blue moon does a sizeable investment in a player from the spl pay off. Unless a player of true, measurable and verifiable potentential is available we should steer clear of pishing away money on players who put a shift in against us. The amount of money weve spunked away in the last 5 years is * scandalous.

The wages they pay to some utter duds down there makes us less attractive too, even to championship level players

Just look at some of the utter pish that played against San Marino yesterday. Wouldn't touch any of the EPL lot.

I honestly still don’t think Congerton owns a passport.

That McBurnie is prime example. Good championship player that would cost an arm and a leg. But in reality, he is rotten.

There is definitely value in the English championship but it takes a lot of digging.

We need an overhaul of the whole scouting and recruitment department.

We should have a team dedicated to simply look for the best 14/15 year olds in Europe and getting them here for free when they’re 16.

Get a DOF and a chief scout to set up a system similar to the likes of Red Bull, Ajax, Frankfurt, Monchengladbach etc. Get young talented hungry players and sell the club as a stepping stone.

Our wage bill is criminal for the quality in our squad.

All a pipe dream though. We’ll end up with Lennon as manager, Park as the scout and Kennedy in as DOF/Sporting Director.

Considering the 4 players trained in Scotland from 15 to 21 and 4 players trained at your club rule in Europe we have to continue to look at players in Scotland. With loads of injuries you can't afford to have a squad smaller than 23 in Europe. You can avoid it if you have a good youth set up and have players from various countries when they are 16.

The Balkan and Scandinavian markets is where we should be exploiting imo, lot of talent from these regions at far smaller prices.

I think if you were to look at our success ratio from these countries compared to that of the english leagues its a far higher rate.

Whilst theres always the odd rasmussen and bangura, there is appears to be no consistent trend of mediocrity like we see from england. Even underwelming players like rogne always seemed to partially pan out in that they put a shift in.

Compare that with the exhaustingly huge list of players weve signed from english leagues and its downright depressing.

Adam vigo, ben hutchinson, danny fox, henri camara et al.

In fact its sevcos biggest achilles heel imo. It would appear weve cottoned on to the fact that drafting in ageing ex stars from england on stupid wages is a milstone around our neck. Ian wright, carlton cole, dion dublin etc... all * useless. Whilst sevco are still at it with blarton, defoe etc... now chatting about * stewart downing.

The english market should be boycotted by the club unless is a compensation fee.

We can and should be exploiting the balkan market whilst keeping a keen eye of scandanavia.

Let the english leagues keep their overhyped overpaid and under critiqued players.

You need 8 home grown players in your squad for Europe, 4 of whom must be trained at your club.

Ledley, Matthews, Hooper, Forster, Sinclair, Dembele, Griffiths (sort of), K Wilson, Commons... all players we have signed who have been imho decent value for money.

We just need to a) get rid of Congercunt and b) look a bit harder. I think there is decent affordable talent out there that often gets overlooked by richer clubs. We need to be more clever in our scouting.... we have been quite lazy the last half a decade.

To bolster our team, we should look for players who are surplus to requirements at strong continental clubs. A new Hinkel or Gravesen. Also, overachieving players from less-known footballing nations.

    Need to look elsewhere.

I would like us to try for wee Paddy Roberts but can't see it myself.

There’s still bargains to be had from down south but in the main it’s full of overpriced *.

Isn't our youth team more than good enough to source squad fillers? Tierney, Forrest, Ralston, the two Hendersons, Mikey, Hazard, the conveyor belt keeps going.
