Hopefully it is an isolated incident and nobody else is attacked or hurt. The way the Spanish polis have been talking over the last week I can't say I am surprised. They were obviously gearing themselves up for trouble long before anybody arrived.

Lots of polis at the British square in Benidorm last night and mostly seem to be just there to keep an eye on things!

If Celtic get at least a draw tomorrow then they move up to 19th place in the new rankings which means that they would start in CL next season from 2nd rd qualifiers and not the 1st rd like this season.

This year’s European campaign is not over for Celtic yet, at least not officially, and there is still something for us to play for tomorrow night.
The association coefficient for Scotland has improved dramatically this year, due in equal parts to our progression to the KO rounds as well as the Sevco’ progression to and mild success in the Group Stage of the Europa League. Right now, our co-efficient is sitting in 20th place just a small fraction behind the 19th place Association (which has been fully eliminated). Even a draw in Spain on Thursday would allow Scotland to, at least temporarily, move up to 19th.

Had Scotland’s clubs collectively performed like this for each of the past 5 years (6.75 pts), our co-efficient would be 11th in Europe — good enough for our Champions automatic placement in Champions League Group Stage, 2nd qualifier for CL, and our top Europa qualifier automatic placement into Group Stages as well.
It may take several years to reach that point again, but I do believe Scotland’s clubs are collectively capable of achieving that result in the coming years.

In the short term, moving up the rankings will carry some smaller, though tangible, benefits. 19th place would allow our Champions to enter Champions League qualification at the 2nd round; 15th would allow entry at the 3rd round as well as a 2nd qualification spot for runners up, with an additional Scottish club entering Europe as each Association gets 3 Europa League spots (2CL+3EL vs 1CL+3EL).
15th would also see all of our Europa League entrants begin at the 2nd round or later. In other words, as we start moving back up the rankings, it becomes easier and easier to accumulate coefficient points across the board as the association points are earned for group stage performance and, for teams not making group stage, the round our teams exit the tournaments. So starting later means our clubs have a better chance of advancing as well as more points even when they fail.

At a club level, this also becomes hugely important in terms of pot seeding for the group stage as being in the 4th pot the last few years has been a real challenge in advancing out of the group. Regularly getting to the group stage of CL via easier qualification path (or automatic placement) would be hugely beneficial to our club co-efficient as that’s an automatic 4 club co-efficient points before we even play our 1st group stage match, with an additional 2 points earned per victory +1 point for each draw.

The Spanish police are violent thugs and shamed themselves the world over. Battoning old women at polling stations in expressing a democratic right to self determination in Catalonia. They deserve a Batton right on their own napper.

My lad has sent a couple of videos earlier, him and his pals are heading back to hotel now, as the Spanish polis have fired a few rubber bullets now. Scummy * are splitting up and moving on any groups of Celtic fans. Could get really nasty later tonight and tomorrow. No reason not to give us some sort of Fanzone when travelling numbers were known.

Its about time that these * are called out for the thugs they are. Not just talking about Spanish police but the other ones that attack fans for no good reason.
I know it would harm Celtic which is why i would not like to see it happen but a boycott of European away matches by our fans, hitting the opponents local economy would soon stop the tactics.
For example: Our 3000 official fans spend a couple of £100 each in Valencia so giving a minimum of £600000 for just 1 night in Valencia. All that taken away from their shops, hotels and pubs would have the shop owners and publicans up in arms.
Their local corrupt officials would suddenly have to sort out their bully boy thug police.
Just think if it was a final like 2003 were 80000 fans were there spending probably in region of £16m and the local economy lost that revenue.
The fans have that power and its about time it was used.

There's nearly 10,000 expected for tomorrow, so with nowhere to congregate it's going to be horrendous. Watching the polis taking great pride in battering guys standing having a drink is sickening.

The Spanish police are notorious for it. I think they see us as English hooligans for whatever reason. Aberdeen fans took a right beating off them in Madrid a few years back.

If our fans are getting shot by these * then Celtic should tell UEFA that match isnt going ahead and come on home.
Tell the UEFA scum that pig * are deliberately targetting Celtic supporters who were just having a peaceful party in the pubs and being attacked by Spanish thugs dressed in police uniforms.

I prefer the 1st qualifier over playing friendlies.

I think it was good to have the competitive Alashkert games before being up against Rosenborg in R2.
