    KIERAN TIERNEY is locked in an anxious fitness fight to be ready for Celtic’s Europa League showdown with Valencia.

    SunSport understands the crocked Scotland star will miss Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie and next week’s league game against St Mirren.

    Left-back Tierney has been nursing a mystery injury, related to his hip, and last played against Salzburg on December 13.

    The 21-year-old travelled to the champions’ winter break camp in Dubai but didn’t train.

    Instead he and striker Odsonne Edouard, also dealing with a knock, were involved with the rehab team.

    It’s believed there’s an outside chance of Tierney returning before the end of January.

    But any further delay could jeopardise his chances of making it for the Valencia tie at Parkhead on February 14.

    Boss Brendan Rodgers — whose cover options are Emilio Izaguirre and Jonny Hayes — is especially keen for Tierney to be involved against the Spanish giants.

    Worried about him. Two leg breaks and a bad hip injury before the age of 22. Its hardly good reading long term.

    Can the club just state the exact diagnosis? Mystery injuries sound like cover-up of a different problem.

    The poor lad has been kicked and hacked with no protection from the referees for nigh on four seasons now. Some of the “tackles” on him would classify as assault in any other facet of life.

    He has a hip problem. There’s nothing mysterious about it.

    Is Fatboab a psychic? Because not even Kieran Tierney knows whether he’ll need surgery yet or not.

    There's various kinds of hip problems. I would hope the club doctors know exactly which one Kieran has. But the secrecy is making things look weird.

    He has a hip problem, he’s trying to work through it to save having surgery. He’s not the first athlete to have a problem with his hips.

    That sadly is so true and he almost never has been rested the past few years. It is absolutely criminal how often players have got away with just brutal straight red card tackles on Tierney over the past few seasons. It has to take it's toll.
