CELTIC are considering a move for Brighton teenager Aaron Connolly.

The 18-year-old striker has been tracked by a host of clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Hoffenheim.

But Brendan Rodgers is also keen and could try to tempt the Republic of Ireland youth cap to Celtic.

Connolly has been a standout scorer for the Premier League side’s Under-23s this term.

He already has 17 goals to his name and became the first Brighton player to win the Premier League 2 player of the month in November.

Connolly is in talks with Chris Hughton’s side about a long-term contract. And they are willing to loan him out when the transfer window opens next month.

But Connolly could look to move on in a bid to secure first-team football, with the likes of Glenn Murray, Florin Andone and Jurgen Locadia ahead of him in the pecking order.

He made his full Brighton debut as a 17-year-old in the Carabao Cup against Barnet last season then came off the bench in the dying seconds of their 1-0 loss to Southampton in the same competition this term.

The Galway-born striker has since hit five goals in three Checkatrade Trophy clashes, including a hat-trick against MK Dons, and has been included in some of Brighton’s senior squads for recent league clashes.

Those sorts of displays have alerted scouts, but interested Championship sides such as Leeds, QPR and Millwall could be priced out of a move.

Connolly signed scholarship forms for Brighton after being spotted by top scout Mark Anderson two years ago.

Anderson moved to Old Trafford almost two years ago and has kept an eye on his former protege.

As well as league champions City being interested, Connolly has also been linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim where Arsenal kid Reiss Nelson is currently starring on loan.

Was going through the top scorers in the under 23 premier league the other day and noticed his name. Would be surprised if we could get somebody like that these days unless his contracts expiring.

This is defos the type of signing we should be making. I had a look at his total goals for brighton in the premier under 23

    Joint top scorer this season.

He is 11th in the all time top scorers in whats obviously a young league

22 goals in 29 games is a brilliant return at that level for any age nevermind somebodys whos played it at 17/18 and you can see some of the names of that last are pretty decent as well.

I'm all in for this one.

He looks as though he'd jump at it too.

With Brendan’s talent for improving young players it should be a no brainier for him to come. That’s if the rumours are true

    * names is a signing policy I can get behind.

We should be all over this, but where does that leave us with the striker situation? Could be doing with some experience

I see his agent is Liam O’Donnell, the Glasgow Lawyer who also looks after Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Christie.

I’m all for this sort of signing, also the Weah loan deal, but I think it’s really important we add a Sutton type, either a loan to buy, or bought outright.

We need to plan for the future - we have those * Champions League qualifiers in 6 months and as we all know, they are huge.
