OLIVIER Ntcham has stated that his desire to win trophies influenced his decision to extend his stay at Paradise.

Speaking to the media for the first time since penning a new four-year deal – which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2022 – the Frenchman said the decision was a big one for his family, but one he was pleased to make.

“I spoke to the manager when we returned from the summer break,” he said. “It took a little bit of time, but we made a decision. Now it’s happened and I’m happy about that.

“This was a big decision for me and my family to make, but we’ve made the right one. I came here last year, and everything was new for me. We made this decision because I won my first trophy here and I was really proud and happy about that.”

The 22-year-old stressed his focus now lies squarely with the Hoops, and expressed delight for his team-mates who beat RB Leipzig 2-1 in the UEFA Europe League on Thursday night.

Having suffered a hamstring injury against Hearts in the semi-final of the League Cup last month, the industrious midfielder is nearing full fitness, and is keen to push on and add to his growing honours list.

“Personally I want to score more goals than last year, and I want to win more trophies," he said. "I want to go further in the Europa League. I want to go far in the Europa League and have the chance to do something special.

“I watched the Leipzig game, and I was really proud of my team. We won in the end, so I was really happy for them. I expect Celtic to qualify to the knock-out stages of the competition, because I think we can challenge the other teams in our group. I hope we have the chance to do something special.”

It may have been a disappointment in the transfer window with regards to buying players but securing the likes of Rogic, Forrest and now Ntcham on new deals gives us a very bright future. To go out and buy players as good as those 3 would cost us a absolute fortune, in fact it would be beyond us to pay the type of money that would be required to buy players of their class.

Should never be played out on the left again, quite clearly never in a million years is he a winger.

Didn't think he showed anything when he came on to give Rodgers a hard decision for Thursday.

2 sloppy passes within 10 mins and a generally casual attitude. Quite frustrating as he can be sensational when he applies himself fully.

If we're offered £15 million+ again in January I don't see how we can turn it down.

Time for the big man to step up, i've no doubt he'll boss the huns and the sheep in the upcoming weeks, but the games inbetween he has to show up for.

Would rather Mulumbu get a game than Ntcham. Not the same player since Moussa left and would gladly see him go in the window.

After today's performance he should be told to train with the reserves for the next 6 weeks.

He's had smoke blown up his * and started to believe his own hype.

Not sure what is wrong with him, but nobody can play that badly.

He couldn't pass the ball to the nearest man today

I've no doubt he'll boss the huns and play completely * the other 3 games, such a frustrating player.

Not just overreacting after today but he is so inconsistent. Has 1 good game in every 8 games or so.

Him and Brown aren’t suited to playing with each other in domestic football.

McGregor, Christie and Rogic is the way forward domestically without a doubt. Brown coming in when needed.

Said when he came back in to the team out game would end up slow and turgid. No a big fan of him tbh and would happily see him go in January.
