    Games console or laptop?

If it's a games console, he's 7. Get him a second hand xbox one

    If it's a laptop, get him a notebook-type one for about £100

Ideally under £500. He likes first person shooter games like fortnite and also minecraft. He has a laptop and ps4 already.

    Ebay is your best bet.

For £500 You can get an I7 Processor with 8GB Ram and a GTX1060 Graphics card.

This will run fortnite and stuff on High Settings with a stable framerate of 60 FPS.

Ive been building and buying for years so any questions just ask

Then it turns up, the guy who know nothing about pcs thinks "great" but inside is a 2001 heap that won't play fortnight. Son cries, Christmas ruined, eBay account closed and Christmas scam complete.

For 500 you get decent ones on ebuyer though.

You having a pop at me over this? You can get scammed for anything on ebay. If he wants to buy a PC in a gaming store your talking about £800 upwards

Ebay has great deals on PC's....I have built arcade machines for years and used Ebay for PC Parts or full Systems.

Regarding the PC i mentioned.....That PC is sufficient enough to run Fortnite and modern FPS shooters at high settings at 60 frames per second.

What you need, as stated is:

    I7 Processor
    GTX 1060 Minimum Graphics card
    8GB Ram
256 SSD drive (run windows on this) + 1TB HD drive (most games nowadays use up a lot of space)

This will run games fine and there are many good retailers on Ebay as well

    What you looking to play?

    My rig:

    I7 6700k Skylake
    GTX 1070
    16GB Ram

This rig runs everything in near Ultra settings, but to be honest you don't really need ultra settings, just adds better shadows etc,* you dont care about.

I run an HTC Vive through this, does really well also, steady 90fps in most games on high.

Probably things like battlefield and fallout etc

Not looking to spend crazy money but want something decent enough that will do a few year before looking to upgrade bits.

ye i ran Battlefield 5 beta at high and looked fantastic, played Fallout in VR and ran great....You dont really have to spend so much on a gaming rig, obviously the more you ahve the easier it is to run.

To run games like this at a good FPS i wouldn't go under a 1060 Card tbh...again you could pick up a good PC for about £500-£700,this would last a few years then you only really need to upgrade your card in about 2 years time

IMO if im buying a second hand PC id be wanting to put my own hard drive in it and bin the old one, that prob means a new copy of Windows unless you get a non OEM key. For all the hassle and the budget if its just for gaming id see if your lad would prefer an XBox One X. Could always get him a slightly cheaper PC for learning about computers if that element is there. Plus PC gaming is all good till a game dont load, driver fail or punkbuster is kicking you out for no reason then who is fixing that? Dont get those issues on consoles really.

Built a gaming rig for about £1200 about 7 year ago, got a good 6 years out of it but having done it consoles are just easier for gaming and PCs are great for working and learning.

Do you have the rest of the gear like a monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, PC-compatible controller?

You can get good PCs online for under 500 but when you add on the peripherals it can add another 100-150 on top of that.

Best deal I could find for a cheap entry-level gaming PC that will run most modern games on decent settings:

    Refurbed GTX 1050 tower

    21.5" HD monitor

    Mouse/keyboard set

About £423 for the lot. The kids control pad/headset from the PS4 will probably work on it as well.
