We can get good defenders in our budget, van dijk (I know findings defender of his ability would be rare) cost what, under £3million? Schar was available cheap, he might not have chosen us but never know. The RB Salzburg CBs cost under £2million, there are plenty of players in our budget, I don't believe that's the the issue.

I believe it comes to either Rodgers not being able to identify the defenders he needs/wants or the full scouting system we have in place is not good enough. Why are we not looking at the mid to end teams of serie a/bundesliga/la Liga/ligue 1? Or searching other countries like Switzerland Belgium Holland Austria etc?

There is plenty of talent available but we've bought Jack Hendry, Marvin Commper, cristian Gamboa and Emilio izzaguire (Great backup but used to play for us). That is a back 4, imagine starting with that as the back 4? All Rodgers signings.

I'll agree Toure was a solid CB to sign, forgot about him and benkovic looks class but he's only here until January unless we are lucky, he's a loan not a proper signing.

Toure was always a stop gap, and Benkovic for how good he is isn’t actually a signing if we are honest. I’m struggling to think of any defender he has actually brought in to sort out our glaring problems.

 

Well the point made was that Rodgers can't spot a defender, I'd say that the evidence says it's a weakness of his but he's not totally incapable.

He's also clearly had a hand in improving Boyata's game.

 

That wasn’t my point, my point is I can’t think of a defender he has brought in to improve our defence. The two you pointed out are stop gaps if we are honest.

 

A full season is quite a long stop gap in terms of Benkovic.

 

C’mon mate you’re grasping here, he could be here for the full season. Plus he was a last minute loan deal on the second last day of the window. We all know our defence has needed sorted but this is all we’ve had in terms of signings or loans.

 

The only point I was making, was that Rodgers does appear to be able to spot a defender.
