On Lennon, when it comes to transfers we always seem to caveat his good work with the line ‘he signed a lot of duds too’.

Everyone signs duds. It’s completely unavoidable. Each successful signing (griff, wanyama, VVD, Forster etc) actually makes it more likely that the next transfer will fail, because they’re competing with those same outstanding players for a place in the team. You can only really look at his work in the transfer market collectively, and overall he was nothing short of brilliant.

Rodgers has yet to prove himself in the transfer market for me, at Celtic at least. I’m not sure if that’s the boards fault, his scouting teams (and by extension his own), or if it’s Rodgers directly. We need a big January imo, because the future of guys like KT, Brown, Rogic and co. may well depend on the club demonstrating some ambition.

Who tho? We only got someone of BRs calibre because he's Celtic minded, it would take quite a coup to get an exciting foreign manager in, do we mean go down the road of what the likes of Everton and Wolves are trying to achieve.

I'm not convinced our board as the know-how to successfully give everything that type of manager would need to be a success here.

If BR goes it will be Lenny and I'm OK with that until the 10 is done, it's the most risk free compromise. But a step-down none the less..

After the 10 is decided we need new direction and fresh ideas on and off the park.

    He's coming under a lot of unfair criticism IMO, in the future there will come a time when fans will reflect on the time we had Rodgers and the domestic impact he made in his first two seasons;

    - invincible treble

    - treble

    - all to play for this season, time will tell

He can't be held responsible for who we are currently signing, the people accountable are in the scouting and recruiting department (Congerton, etc.). Probably nice enough guys, but they're not good enough for Celtic in our financial climate. Blaming the manager is the easiest way to vent frustration, but certainly isn't effective or productive.

Congerton was Rodgers’ pick for the role. So yes, he can be held responsible for our signings. Did you not see his comments on Hendry, Musonda, Compper etc?

Those are the players he wanted.

Struggling to find any press information that says Rodgers handpicked him, what's your source?
Which comments are you referring to?

Are you suggesting that he didn't pick the guy he worked with before?

The Hoops manager said: “The reason I brought in Lee was because he’s one of the best at it.”

Here’s what he said about Hendry.

Speaking to the BBC, he said

“I think [Hendry’s] potential is huge. That’s what I said to the board when I first saw him play, ‘this is a player I think can be a big player’. When you come to Celtic you have to deal with expectation and pressure. If he can deal with all those things then you’ve got a Scottish centre-half who has all the attributes of a top-class footballer.”

    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/read...-rodgers-told-celtic-board-jack-hendry/?amp=1

Give it a google and you’ll find his comments on the other two.

In the same way we blame a manager for signing duds, the manager also needs to take some responsibility for his backroom staff not doing the job. Lee Congerton was brought in by Rodgers. So Rodgers is also accountable

Yeah, hate to admit it; but if he was the one that brought in Congerton, he screwed up badly with that one.

Strangely enough I agreed with Rodgers when we signed Hendry. I also thought he had all the raw attributes. Turns out for all he is quick and relatovely comfortable on the ball, he had no defensive instinct whatsoever and is bullied by *

Young. Maybe just needs to keep working and he'll be OK eventually?

As you say BR continually says quality etc yet recently he wanted to buy mckenna.. The previous window he said he got everything he wanted .. (comperr hendry if I remember rightly) so that kinda * the quality argument anyway. Although I'm in a minority as I think Hendry might have been ok if we hadn't had to throw him in at the deep end but it's done now and Compper was a disaster waiting to happen, if anyone bothered looking at his career stats. I know I made the mistake of pointing that out though :giggle1:.

It just seems to me that the good signings are BR and the failures are someone else's fault. He wanted Gamboa/de Vries at the time and look what has happened with them.
Sorry mate the board currently have sanctioned this level of wage bill while backing the manager, simple as that. So the board have trusted him, however I would be less trusting now than previously tbh. Much is made of this list idea and how the problem is because we don't get the top name on the list but get the second/third name from the list but surely we should be able to rely on descent 2nd/3rd level targets being identified by the coaches/BR as well..

Maybe but I wont hold my breath, Ajer and Benkovic are miles ahead of him and years younger. Although I appreciate that its different for everyone
