The crystal bells was/is on the Gallowgate beside the railway bridge,i think the pub your talking about was under the bridge on the other side. I can't remember the name of it but it was a right kip.

This is actually great to hear. Honestly wish I never started myself, it was funny because when I was 14/15 I was absolutely adamant that I was never gonna drink (even tho I had tasted alcohol a few years prior) along with my school friends at the time. None of us saw the appeal of it, I certainly didn't because I personally saw a lot of the negatives that alcohol brought with it. Then it just happened, a few lads I began hanging out with were drinking at a house party gave in to peer pressure and the rest is history. 2 of my old school friends still haven't touched a drink to be fair to them.

If young lads/lassies around 16 are asking me for advice on drinking I'd honestly tell them not to start, it's not worth it. There are far better things to do and ways of enjoying yourself. Do not get into the habit of essentially living for the weekend just so you can go out and get smashed.

Ah, what the * am I saying, I'd probably buy them a lock of drink. :giggle1:

Drank a fair bit in my late teens and early 20s but now at the age of 26 there are times when I just can't be bothered. I went 6 months without a drink until a couple of weeks ago and can't say I missed it all that much.

Would probably be alright with the odd pint here and there, but I hate feeling like I've wasted the weekend when I've got a killer hangover for half of it.

Don't blame them, especially with the stupid amounts of tax on booze now. Hmmm, what will I do with my tenner? A bottle of gut-rot cider or a bag of nice grass? There really is no contest.

MacKinnons I'm sure. Right next to Schipka Pass. Used to open at 8am at the weekends. Me and a mate used to finish our nightshift in Hillington at 7am and head in there for a few frames and a few beers.

Aye I don’t think so Sean. We were in that the night of the huns game with the storm. 1-0 Ledley to move ahead of the filth. My Mrs asked for a red wine. The barmaid was built like a brickie looked at me like I was less of a man. Said it’s for the wife. She actually found it behind a load of bottles probably from Centenary season. Wiped off the dust and set it up. “Can I have a glass?” Me. Her “aye, it’ll be a tumblr, dinnae do wine glasses.” Mrs near took a heart attack. The bar I’m on about isn’t Tollbooth but was in between them I think. Same side anyway.

Likely just because people don't go out as much now, only 15 years ago most 15 year olds were out roaming the streets on a Friday and Saturday boozing, now that barely happens and if your just sitting in your pals house playing a playstation or watching netflix or whatever they do they probably dont see the point in drinking especially as people have mentioned you can just pass about a few joints and chill for cheaper and go home fine and wake up the next day fresh.

It’s probably because there is a lot more things to do these days, maybe not more things in the past but with the internet the access to find out about them is a lot easier.

So much easier to find and follow your interests these days.

All we really had was meeting up with mates and getting smashed at the weekend, nobody done anything else really.

    It’s nearer a 1/4 than 1/3 @The GOAT.
No need to try sensationalise it mate, it’s 29% as the study says. :fear:

Used to bump beers and wine off my folks from about 9. My maw used to buy the big boxes of wine you could press the button on, big 3l Chardonnay things. Empty it, and you've got a wee pillow to kick about.
