Curiosity has gotten the better of me. I've held of reading these because another auther had taken over the writing duties (for obvious reasons). But I'm actually missing the series so decided to just go for it.

    Book 4...

Reading elnarco about the Mexican drug war and a cartel leader who made his cartels watch braveheart and the Godfather .

La Familia also uses regional pride to rally farmers and small-town hoodlums. They claim to be good Michoacán men who have driven out “foreign” Sinaloans and Zetas and even seen the federales off. In this spirit, the Maddest One made all his troops watch the movie Braveheart. As La Familia gunmen shoot down soldiers, they can feel like Scottish barbarians beating out the * English (except La Familia assassins don’t wear kilts). The Godfather trilogy was also compulsory viewing,
educating men in loyalty and family values.
Grillo, Ioan. El Narco: The * Rise of Mexican Drug Cartels (p. 200).

He talks alot about the dangers of the subconcious and abstract thinking, i could really relate to alot of his stuff at one time although i found it quite harsh. Ill probably give this one a read.

Ulysses. It's mad but it's good, and when you really get with the flow of it it's really brilliant. Some of the abrupt chapter/section changes can be quite brutal though.

Reading a great book about Charles Manson and the Family. Geoff Guinn wrote it. Disturbing that it was a true story.

Reading some of Stuart MacBrides books. I don't usually read a series or anything but I am loving his books. About a detective from Aberdeen, quite funny but grime at same time. I read the 3rd or 4th one on holiday in Mexico, it was called Flesh House Jeeso I nearly went veggie for a fortnight after reading it thinking that the things in the book could actually happen :56:

Finished George RR Martin's already classic Game of Thrones the first book in that series. In a world brilliant.

At a loss for something to read just now. Downloaded the sample of Cosa Nostra by John Dickie and it took me like a month to read it cause I kept switching off and leaving it. Obviously an interesting subject but found it a bit too dry, like something you're forced to read for study and think I'd struggle to stay with the full version.

Just finished this wee number. The basic premise is Frank is in jail for murder, him and 7 or so others (who are skilled workers) are given a choice to train and travel to Mars to build and maintain a research centre. They'd still be prisoners, but they'd have freedom on Mars and love as normal a life as you can there, or stay on earth and see out their sentence. Once on Mars, bodies start to drop, coincidence or not? Whodunit.

Decent enough story but the ending was lacking.

Finished The People vs Democracy by Yascha Mounk. A very interesting look at the rise of authoritarian style populists especially comrade Trump and the threat to the future of democracy. Mostly focused on the US but does bring Europe into the discussion as well.
