There have been a lot of these posts, but this one explicitly states that the US is a money league. It really isn't, especially for the older guys. And it's all public information, you can go and check out the wages of every player in MLS. There is not one player in MLS who makes above £100,000 per week. Not one. Not Kaka, not Pirlo last year, not Villa. Most of them take pay cuts when they get to North America. Ibrahimovic is on 27,500 / week, and was offered literally 10 times that for China. There is no way that clubs in the US will offer a guy like Torres that much money. I think it all stems from the erroneous information that Beckham was getting 50 million USD per year, but MLS has never paid as much as Europe, let alone China or the Gulf. Only Americans and Mexicans get overpaid, but that's for marketing purposes and they still don't get as much as they could have gotten if they'd stayed in Europe and progressed to being PL/La Liga/Bundesliga talents.

Brendan wouldnt have him. If he's got money to offer those type of wages to a player......then it would be Paddy Roberts first......not a waaaaay over the hill striker living off his reputation a decade ago

Orlando City captain Kaka remains the highest-paid player in MLS, according to figures released Tuesday by the MLS Players Union, with his $7.168 in guaranteed compensation edging Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco ($7.116 million) for a third straight season.25 Apr 2017

If Brendan was given that amount of wages to spend on a single player, and we wasted it on Torres, I’d be raging.

On low wages I’d take him for Europe, doubt he’d take a pay cut though.

Would like to see him with Benitez at Newcastle for nostalgia sake

no thanks was outstanding for 2-3 seasons in the prem and has been living off it ever since. 100 games 24 games in la liga over past 3 years, Miku has probably a better record than that

Absolutely no chance :giggle1: for starters his wage, he’ll go the MLS retirement home picking up a big wage and in good weather.

Secondly he hasn’t got the legs anymore, we need young strikers that will press from the front, so I doubt we are going spend big money on wages to use him as a super sub or play 2 up top.

You weren't too good at maths were you? I'm sorry to say my dear, but that is below £100,000, which is exactly what I said. It seems a big number, but when you factor in the exchange rate to GBP and divide it by 52 for the weekly wage, it's really nothing special by European, Gulf, or Chinese standards. And that's the highest paid person in the league. The top 20 make half the wages, but that's because most of the wages are so small, not because the ones at the top are making so much. The entire league paid 150 million USD in 2016. Last year Manchester United alone paid 329 million USD. Carlos Tevez alone made 40 million (!) USD in his year in China. That's over 25% of all of MLS' wages.

    So who's full of *?

Can’t see it happening & don’t really want it to happen but if Brendan thinks he can get something out of him then I’m happy on another note what can Torres offer us that griff can’t

    What are you slabbering about?

Who gives a flying about Man U, China etc the MLS can pay people people £100k per week, * knows how pedantic your being with the figure, you seriously aren't telling me that he's only getting like.. £96k instead.??? You would have made a great banker on deal or no deal, you can take the 1p or the £100k or I'll offer you £95k? Lol, ffs.

Face facts he's way out our league and I'd be totally flabbergasted if he goes anywhere that won't pay him megabucks. Full of * was harsh, apologies, but I'm still going my way with this one.

There, the actual figures to stop folk bickering.

Only the top 9 players in the MLS are outwith our wage budget. From 10 down, we could afford any one of those wages without even being our top earner currently.

Torres, would he demand to be paid as much as Kaka, Pirlo, Villa? Doubt his reputation of late could demand that sort of wage. But I doubt he will be accepting a wage that is acceptable to us.
