One of his most famous quotes was "I'd hate to be a teetotaler.Imagine getting up in the morning knowing that's as good as you're going to feel all day"

Another classic quote is from none other than W.C Fields "I never drink anything stronger than Gin before breakfast"

Same happened with Oliver Reed in Gladiator. Ridley Scott was apprehensive about casting him but him being the consumate professional he stayed sober for a couple of months.

There is a cracking quote by Omid Djali (?) that Reed was supposed to punch him in a scene and Reed asked Scott if he could wind him up by grabbing him by the balls instead. Scott agreed. So Reed grabbed him by the balls and they done the scene but they had to reshoot it 4 or 5 times and in between shots Reed still held onto his balls. THey would be talking about the weather and food at the hotel etc... all the while Reed had a grip on his goolies :giggle1:

Djali said he was frightened of him so just assumed this was part of his method acting and didn't want to say anything so went along with it. It was take 4 or 5 before Reed leaned in and whispered, you know this is a wind up right?

One of my favourites :50:. I'm sure there's a quote somewhere from Roger Moore lamenting that everyone was on their best behaviour...
