I have to admit I find this thread enjoyable, but I'll try to give you my view on Berget.

He's good in the big games. Berget was great in the qualification games against Salzburg and Celtic. The Swedish title race is tight with 5-6 teams involved and in the games against those Berget has also been really good.

He has however struggled in the games against weaker sides, I think Berget thrives on the energy in a game more than his talent as a fotboll player. There was a period when Berget was heavily criticized and not only left out of the starting-11 but the squad all together. But got back to the team just as the CL qualification started and has been among if not the best player since.

I can see how that mentality would be a problem in SPFL given Celtics dominance and as some of you have mentioned he was just thrown right into the qualification games against Legia and Maribor without having played for a while.

Have to agree with MalmöLad, Berget does seem to shine in the bigger games. As far as I remember, he was the same way in Norway as well.

But going by that logic, he should've loved his time in Cardiff and played some of his best football there. It didn't happen, so it's not a fact, just a theory.

I also agree with Bazros, the timing of being put into the squad against Legia worked against him.

In the end, this discussion is really pointless. He's not at Celtic any more, water under the bridge and so on.

The Dundee game we were playing so purely, I thought it was cruel taking him off 2 mins before half time, that must have reduced his confidence to nothing, that was the end of his celtic career right there.

Don't have anything against Jo Inge Berget at all. Never worked out for him here, but always seemed a really open and honest guy.

I remember when Malmo lost 3-2 at Parkhead with him bagging the two goals, and despite being goaded by interviewers into slagging us off, he always stayed respectful and spoke well of us.

    Good luck to him.

If we'd have kept him, we'd have made the champions league. Then our results now would not have looked as bad.. :56:
