My post was aimed at others not to take the * out of you or anyone else who offers help and advice to travelling supporters.

I know several guys going over so feel free to put up anything relevant you feel is of use. eg, transport from airport to city and from there safest way to the stadium, cost of hotels, where do most away fans meet, etc etc.

To get a simple tourist category visa, first step is to obtain an invitation (sometimes called voucher or sponsors ) letter.

This is an official document issued by registered travel agents in Russia so it's not just a booking confirmation.

The invitation lists your personal and passport details, date of arrival and departure and provisional itinerary of your trip. It also contains a couple of serial numbers which you need when completing the visa application.
The invitation is sent to you by email and you should print off a copy and include with the application.

To obtain an invitation - some larger hotels are able to issue directly, but you can find smaller hotels/hostels/airbnb can't issue them. In this case you can buy one simply on-line. Watch out though, some sites charge well over the odds.

I sometimes buy and send for family/friends to visit and local cost for an invitation here is about 11 GBP to order one on 24 hours service.

Once you have the invitation you can now complete the electronic visa application. To submit the application you need to go in person to the visa centre. For Scotland the visa centre is right next door to Easter Road Stadium in Edinburgh.
Take along a printed paper copy of your visa ( sign and attach a photograph x2) , passport, copy of invitation and pay the fee. Fingerprints are taken at the centre.

Check the website for opening hours for visa application submission. There are various types of visa, business/private/tourist plus fee vary of one day/five day service - most would select tourist visa/five day processing.

You can collect the visa in person - usually an hour window slot in the afternoon ( keep your receipt for this) or another payment for the passport to be posted back to you.

    Other notes-
They can ask you in for an interview if you work in some specified areas, government, military, defence.
When you list your exit date on the invitation, give yourself an extra couple of days as a contingency- if you overstay your visa expect it to be brutal to fix this.
The visa centre usually observes Russian holidays so may be closed for the first nine days in January.

    2.
Visa cost - it is expensive and the reason for that is it matches what Russians pay for a British visa.
Russian asylum seekers into the EU was reaching 50,000 a year just a few years ago so most EU countries had to tighten vetting procedures. UK consulates in Russia now require for visa applicants a shed load of documents and personal appearance and fingerprints. As the Russian government is easily slighted- it goes for * for tat.

But if 199 go he is going to look a right *.

Actually he said about 200 so if we give 200 either way he is already right.
