Was just having a look. Riijkard was in the top 3 twice. Maldini once. Xavi three times. Iniesta twice.

Lothar Matthaus is another great shout.

Henry finished second to Nedved in 2003. I would have given it to Henry as he was a better player then.

Not for me. Maldini is the best defender in history.

Was between him and Xavi on that list, in my opinion.

My view has always been that Guardiola's Barca team had the three best players in the world: Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.

So either Iniesta or Xavi. Went for Xavi.

Maldini, the best defender I've ever seen in my life and with the way defenders are playing now, I doubt anyone will ever come close to him in future. Absolute legend of the game

Now there is a player. People say about McStay being World Class - this guy was! Very similar players actually if you have watched them play.

Maradona said he was the greatest player he had ever shared a pitch with.

Shame he has sort of ruined his reputation by being a * manager :56:

Didn’t he win the World Cup in 1998 against Argentina though?

Best ever box to box midfielder imo. Forgot he had won it actually.

Hard to pick, I voted for Buffon but ask me tomorrow and I'd probably pick someone else. Maldini probably should win, but underrated players are Iniesta and Rijkard both could be two of the best ever in their positions.

I voted for Puskás - admittedly on reputation alone.

    Budapest Honvéd:

    League (5)

    367 games (380 goals)

    Real Madrid:

    La Liga (5)
    Copa del Rey (1)
    European Cup (3)
    Intercontinental Cup (1)

    262 games (242 goals)

    Hungary:

    Olympic Gold (1)
    World Cup Runners-Up (1)

    84 games (85 goals)

    Individual:

European Player of the Year (1)
    World Cup Golden Ball (1)

Of the players I’ve seen play in person, I can’t separate Buffon, Iniesta, Maldini and Xavi.
