Hey lads, I've recently started a retrospective series on the Road to Seville for the Grand Auld Team website since it's been 15 years since that UEFA Cup final run took place.

Sorry if I've made you feel old.

Anyway, here are the first two pieces on the FC Basel/FK Suduva matches and the first leg of the Blackburn tie. We're aiming for getting these articles put out on the exact day that each match took place.

If anyone's got memories from these matches and would like to share them, please do. I'm always fascinated by football fans' memories of important times in their club's history.

Was it even on the telly? Canny mind if it was.

I can't imagine it being pretty considering the lack of quality Suduva had.

Guess we'll just have to imagine it then.

Balde accidentally sticking it into the net with his massive Bobo it is then.

The fact it was nearly 15 years ago is mind blowing.

Was only 11 at the Blackburn game so my memories aren't the clearest but I remember it being a tense atmosphere with them creating a fair few chances. Think it was David Thompson who cracked the bar with a long range belter. Friedel made a ridiculous save from Henrik? as well iirc.

Sat at the corner of the upper Jock Stein/north stand so when Henrik knocked it in it was pretty much in line with me. Just remember Paradise erupting and bodies everywhere. One of the best reactions to a goal I've ever experienced.

In the 2nd leg vs Basel we played a 4-4-2 from the start which arguably was part of our downfall given how unfamiliar it was for us. Reverted to the usual 3-5-2 after half-time. Perhaps worth recognising in your article/formation.

Cheers man, it's hard to find formations from that time so I naturally assumed we went 3-5-2 like O'Neill did usually.

Only games in the entire run that weren't on telly, and come to think of it I don't remember ever seeing the Suduva goal myself. Is it even on the official Road to Seville DVD, don't think it is?

I still cant watch footage of the final cause I feel the same pain every time Bobo gets sent off and then they score. I still think if Big John was fit and was able even to come on as a sub that he'd have scored and we'd have won it

The Liverpool tie at anfield really sticks in my memory for some reason, Thompson blasting that free kick and Hartson scoring near the end of the game to seal the win , all the more sweeter being away from home , remember watching that as a kid , great match that was .

I was 14 at the time and in full football Mania. MON was at the helm, Larsson was in attack, and the Huns were being finally put in their place. Good times.

And yes, it still hurts that we didnt win it. That Larsson header remains as one of my favourite moments in the game.

Class, looking forward to reading the next bit :50: I was 7 in 2003 so its very interesting to read about the little moments from these games that you dont know about by watching highlights for 14 year.

Still remember the final clearer than yesterday tho. Watched it on the telly with my ma, da and wee brother and a few of the auld mans mates, and its the first time football really broke my heart.

Strangely enough the second time was a few days later when they * won the league on the last day :31:
