Put forward by @Matt_20 , this 1969 film sees "Two Western bank/train robbers flee to Bolivia when the law gets too close."(imdb)

Starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford we see one of the all time classics of the Western genre.

I think this is actually the only Western on the list (surprised by that), so with reference to other films, how does this sit for you in the whole genre? Does it deserve to be the only one on our list? Also discuss the usual use of characters and the time period as you watch this film. Set in a world that none of us have any first hand experience in, nor family (I would imagine), how do you relate to these sort of films and do you look upon them as realism or fantasy?

Just watched it through, and quick response to it is - good film, enjoyable, characters interesting and worth getting to know, some funny/comedy moments and reactions off each of the two main. But overall felt a little let down near the end. Was waiting all film for the girl, Etta, to play a more prominent role. Someone who was really going to come between the two lads and drive them apart, perhaps even turning on each other, but alas it didn't happen.

Think my expectations of something to pit the two against each other and turn, made me feel a little let down. But on the whole, a good watch and glad I got around to watching it finally.

7/10, but more because of my own expectations and not the film in it self.

Another one that I haven't seen before!

I'll watch it this week at some point. Never really been able to get into old western films, hopefully this one is different.

Always had a soft spot for western movies. Think it's from when they used to be on ch4 on a Sunday afternoon when you were lying on the couch burst.

Never seen this one and will look forward to watching it.

I remember being surprised by how modern it felt when I first watched it. It's ostensibly a western but it's nothing like the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood type westerns, it's more like a buddy cop film set in a western. The chemistry between Newman and Redford is iconic even to this day.

In my opinion a Clint Eastwood western is totally different from a John Wayne western

    One of my favourite films.
