Greetings Celtic supporters, I'm an Australian who joined this forum pretty much to follow the progress of Rogic (mine and many Australian's favourite player). I also have a soft spot for Celtic myself, however I would find it difficult to properly support a team based on the other side of the world.

Just a couple of quick questions because I can't watch many Celtic matches because of the time difference.
Is there a particular reason that people know of as to why Rogic didn't start against PSG? I would have thought he'd be a shoe in with his ability to keep the ball under pressure.
Second, when the whole squad is fully fit is he part of the first choice 11 in most people eyes?
and third (not that anyone bar those in management at the club would know for certain) is he seen as a player that would become a career Celtic player, possibly a future leader among the squad, or would the plan be more to an on selling at a profit to another club?

Sorry if that was a little long winded and I appreciate it if you got this far through reading that post.

Welcome, it was a surprise to some that he didn't start the game ahead of Armstrong as Armstrong's form has dipped since his contract nonsense. Rogic had I think 2 internationals games a week before the game and that's the only thing I can think of as to why he didn't start (Would've rather Rogic or Mcgregor start). Only downside to playing Rogic is his running ability to burst at speed when he has turned a player and can look like he's tired 10 minutes into a game. I can't see Rogic having any chance at being a leader (captain?) as he's a very quite lad, Tierney will most likely be the next captain. Once Rodgers leaves I feel that Rogic will leave also, that will be in 2-3 years- as he will have ambitions to go into the PL in his prime. Too many Aussies judge success on whether or not a player is in the English Premier League which is ridiculous.

If you listen to Brendan's interviews for long enough it becomes pretty clear why he didn't start. He keeps banging on about how at the very top level you need pace and power. Rogic has great technique, touch and is a goal threat, but pace is what holds him back from being an absolute cert to start for Brendan, especially in the CL games.

I think Rogers chose legs and stamina on tuesday night ,it didn't work cauz once we managed to get the ball no one could hold it to create ,that's why he was put on ,and it worked a bit .

Aye but Brendan aint always right though, is he, just like being oblivious to our CH position and trying to spin pish about Button at CH.

As said before he tried to get a bunch of runners in midfield and it totally bombed, if Oz could run he wouldn't be here, face facts, but it still doesn't hold him back for me, absolute genius, should be playing every week, he is our only true no.10.

Oh and he's my fav player.

    1. Because Rodgers thought playing 3 in midfield would give us better stability and more control of the game. This turned out to be a mistake but most people were calling for those 3 to start before the match so you can see the logic. Rogic of course is more accustomed to playing further forward.

    2. Personally for me he would be but he has an awful lot of competition as his is the position that is easiest to remove to accommodate others. For me he's essentially competing against everyone in midfield and attack. Generally out of Armstrong, Ntcham, McGregor, Sinclair, Roberts, Forrest, Griffiths, Dembele and Rogic, 3/4 of them will be on the bench most weeks, and they're all very good players

    3. I'd like him to stay for a long time but I think he'll be sold for a profit at some point

It doesn't matter whether Brendan is always right or not, or whether Rogic with pace would still be here, the decision on who plays is Brendan's and he wants pace. It's always going to hold Rogic back here while Brendan is the manager. That's just the reality of the situation.

Maybe he should sign Usain Bolt?

Huge oversight then, a certain other famous/great Celtic manager fkd up in CL as well by keeping a wee certain no.25 on the bench during the whole competition until the very last game and the rest is history. That and keeping him on the bench in a cup final because he was playing for ET, lol.

It's easy to say that it was a mistake in hindsight. Would we have fared any better had he started? Who knows, we might have, or we might have lost by more. I don't know what cup you are talking about, are you still having a go at Martin, or are you back to Brendan?

He'd be in my starting XI every time domestically. In Europe I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the great insight everyone, i really appreciate it. Just to clarify, when I said squad leader I didn't mean captain - I know how quiet he is - i just meant more of a senior squad member/mentor

As I've said earlier, you need players like rogic to start in Europe if we are going to play he way Brendan wants us to play. It's a bit of a contradiction, he wants us to play players with pace and power over technique in europe, yet also seems to want to break teams down and play through them? If you don't have players that are technically good then there's no point in trying to play that style.

1 - It was just after an international week so perhaps Brendan thought he'd be less than 100%.
2 - Yes. He's one of our best players.
3 - No idea. There's never been a rumour of him leaving.

After the other day I'd start him in Europe everytime possible. The missing link between midfield and striker when he's not in and that bit of flair, is glaringly obvious..

I'd be massively shocked if he doesn't start in Brussels..

He did basically admit if it wasn't for Brendan coming in, he wouldn't of not signed a new contract and possibly left..

I didn't know that but I wouldn't hold it against him. There wasn't a lot of positive feeling around the club at the end of Deila's reign.
