Boyata was much worse than Erik is playing at the moment, and he is older. Erik surely could be having a hard time and get back to his best soon.

Back then Bitton was way more useful to the squad than he is now

Don't want to be disrespectful but considering what we paid for him, I'd happily take £3-4m for Sviatchenko and hope to build up more depth at the center-half position with signings like Coetzee. Reality is that CBs are at a huge premium right now (I mean when they are batting around £15m fees for clear 3rd-choice PL CBs...)

Of course, this is probably all for naught since Copenhagen got eliminated from CL.

Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen’s hopes of a £3.5m swoop for Sviatchenko could stall after their Champions League exit and a serious injury to their top star.

The Danish club saw a £2.7m bid for the 25-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead, rejected this week.

But their hopes of returning for him took a major blow as they were eliminated from the Champions League as Qarabag became the first club from Azerbaijan to reach the Group Stages.

And they will also have to fork out for a replacement for Paraguyan hitman Federico Santander, who suffered a knee injury during the game, after scoring the opening goal, which could rule him out for six months.

Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken said: “I have rarely known a team so unfortunate for injuries.

“Federico Santander will be out for many months.

“Erik Johansson, Rasmus Falk are also long-term injuries.

“It means we have to go a long time with just two fit strikers, so we are obviously prioritising in that department when we are looking to bring new players in.

“It’s the worst injury situation I can remember.

“Also, we have to pay all the players who are injured too. Our situation hasn’t been helped at all by going out of the Champions League.”

Unless a team from England is bidding for him it's not relevant tbf, Copenhagen will have less money than us, under current circumstances it's a fair price I think.

Copenhagen plays 2 strikers up top, so yeah don't you think only having 2 fit strikers (and not the clear first choice striker) would be a problem?

This type of situation is exactly why BR came in saying that we couldn't rely on just having Griffs up top and him scoring 40 goals every year. We're lucky to have two solid strikers competing for one spot when they're healthy, and then we have the distributed goal contributions from the wing and midfield to thank for our success last year.

FC Copenhagen coach Stale Solbakken has revealed Celtic have priced them out of signing Erik Sviatchenko.

The Danish club had a £2.7million offer for the 25-year-old defender knocked back last week.

But their hopes of returning for their countryman took a major blow as they were eliminated from the Champions League with Qarabag becoming the first ever club from Azerbaijan to reach the group stage.

Sviatchenko has fallen out of favour at Celtic but Copenhagen boss Solbakken admits he’s unlikely to resurrect a deal for the Dane.

He said: "We have been looking for a Scandinavian defender.

"We were in dialogue with Celtic, but the distance between our bid and their asking price was so great that there was no point dwelling on it."

Sviatchenko hobbled off during Celtic's Champions League win at Rosenborg and has been linked with a move to clubs in Italy and Turkey as well as Copenhagen.

But it seems the Danish champions' interest in the stopper has ended.

He's our player, we dictate what his fee will be and that's that.

If he were to go to England (and there will be interested parties there) we'd get more than the pocket change they're offering for him. In relative terms.

International players with Champions League experience cost money.

not fussed if he goes or not if we sign a CB but he could do better than the Danish league.

Still would like to see him stay if he can get his head right. He is a decent player when playing well.

FC Copenhagen wanted him and he also wanted to go to FC Copenhagen.

But the price that Erik Sviatchenko's Scottish club, Celtic, had put on him was too high for a club change 'home' to Denmark for the 25-year-old Danish defense profile.

However, according to BT Sport's information, it is unlikely that the former FC Midtjylland leader will ever find a new club before the Transfers window clicks on Thursday at midnight.

The two major Italian clubs SS Lazio and Fiorentina are in any case still in the picture to secure Sviatchenko's signature. Contrary to the agreement negotiated with FCK over the last few weeks, this should be a lease agreement for the rest of the season with a purchase option with one of the two Serie A clubs.

Erik Sviatchenko's knee injury, which keeps him out of the game for about 8 weeks, complicates the negotiations with the Italian clubs, both of which are solids in the top of Series A, and both of them were in the picture to secure the dane in the transfer window in January.

However, this was not a change for Sviatchenko, who chose to continue in Celtic, where he won two championships and played against 70 matches since January 2016.

The knee injury that Sviatchenko incurred at the end of July in a Champions League qualifier for Celtic against Rosenborg has caused the defender problems in this transfer window.

Earlier this month, BT Sport could tell that a big shift to the Turkish masters from Besiktas was distorted. Due to knee injury .

Also, clubs like Fenerbahce and Leicester pulled, according to BT Sport's information, the corners of the eye, as the extent of Sviatchenko's injury - 12 weeks break - became known.

FC Copenhagen has long been interested in Erik Sviatchenko, which coach Ståle Solbakken has openly acknowledged.

However, the price of about $ 22 million demanded by Celtic was too high for FCK, who also had to take an extra trip to the transfer market to find a defeat federal defender Federico Santander last week injured.

Also the salary, which would be among the highest in FCK's history, the two parties did not reach agreement on.

"Everybody hoped for Sviatchenko, but we bought Sviatchenko, he would be ready in four to five weeks. We may not have money to pay both Celtic and the salary. We talked to Celtic once, when we were far far from, "said Ståle Solbakken Sunday evening to BT Sport.

Erik Sviatchenko has no comment on BT Sport's information about the Italian clubs' interest in him. Earlier this month, however, he said - in general terms - about the many transfer speculations :

"I'm 26 to October, and I want to play every weekend, but now I'm hurt and that's what I'm dealing with. It's the identity you are wearing, so others must wonder about all the possible things about the future: Whether you're ready to change a club or to stay where you are. There is nothing in my mind now. Right now, I focus on getting back in the best possible constitution. "

Erik Sviatchenko has played five international matches for Denmark.

If Jackson Irvine is worth 2 million and Aluko is going for 7.5 million Bitton is worth alot more than 3 million.

It's relative to what someone's willing to pay tbh. We know the English market is daft, they over-inflate fees for players that play to a reasonable level.

At this moment in time Bitton was frozen out prior to us suffering the CB injuries, considering they already sneer at the game up here, how highly sought after is a 6th choice CM going to be down there? If we got £3 million for Bitton right now I think we'd be doing exceptionally well.

Think we should hang on to big Erik as we know how good he can be.
Can't see us bringing anyone else is at CB this window so with him, Jozo and Boyata competing for places we should be good at CB with Ajer as backup/league cup starter.

We could do a lot worse than Erik
