Same thing happened re people pulling out their phones to film the attack in Manchester, these people are more interested in their 15 minutes of fame on instagram than they are about people's lives.

Part in bold. I'd say it's still a very tolerant religion on the whole.

I can never understand how people would be put off travelling by an attack like this. To put into context, and using some * box maths, there were around 25,000 people in and around the Manchester Arena the night of the attack. The odds of you dying there were 1 in 1087. The odds of being injured,1 in 100. And that's if you are in the place you are going. You have more chance of being murdered in Acapulco, then being injured in the exact spot a suicide bomber detonated himself.
Never leave things like this influence where you go, if you did, you would never leave the bed.

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your * must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

    Quaran
“When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks.” 47:4

Now granted these are well and truly outdated and I very highly doubt that many people follow their holy books word for word.

You can hold religion accountable to an extent but at the end of the day these people carrying out the acts don't speak on behalf of their fellow believers.

At the end of the day if I were to kill dozens in the name of Tom Cruise who would be the * me or Tom Cruise?

As long as you're not gay, a non-believer or a woman... but tbh most religions have that going for them.

Saw a BBC thing around Indian Partition Day about Hindu extremists (who would've imagined such a thing), guy with a pistol promising to put a bullet in anyone threatening his herd of cows.

Do you know the context of those verses? Reading the bible or the Qur'an verbatim is reading it ignorantly.

That's simply not true for the vast majority of Muslims.

    Tom Cruise, obviously.

The problem with all the religions mentioned, is that they are easily interpreted to suit your meaning. I always think of the example of the redneck snake-handling Christians in the South, getting themselves bitten to date because of one line in the bible; "They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
Thousands and thousands of lines contradicting each other, and these lunatics pick that.

As I mentioned in a previous post, with a link to an excellent article on the matter, it is much easier to misinterpret scripture when you have little knowledge of it. Which is why radical preachers prey on secular young men who have acted 'Western' for much of their life, but have never been accepted in the West. People who have histories with the police, had difficulties finding employment, suffered racist abuse etc. It is much easier to teach these lads to blow themselves up and tell them they will go to a better place, than some lad who grew up learning the 5 pillars and to respect his parents.

I don't follow any religion and I certainly wouldn't blame a whole society for the acts of a few individuals. I believe people can corrupt the teachings of a religion to suit their own purposes, like select a few chosen verses and put their own interpretation on them. From what I gather IS in particular seems to go for an extreme version of their own religion. I googled and see that there are violent passages in the Koran and the Bible. Whether a religion tells you to actually kill or not I'm not prepared to dig that deep.....I simply referred to something that I had read. I figured though the person had it right if they said "if your religion tells you to kill you need a new religion".

I think it's simply just to do with nonbelievers in general. But I agree you would need to know a deeper context. Having said that is there any context in the bible(s) acceptable to promote death?

'If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)'

    Open to interpretation?
