I think Rosenberg will qualify but I'd rather Dundalk. That said, St Johnstone knocked them out last season or the season before over 2 legs in early round qualifiers so no reason for us to fear them either. We should progres from this round reasonably comfortably. Was a good draw in my opinion.

Yeah, unquestionably since. I just meant to say, before I got distracted elsewhere, that it wasn't just Larsson that made them that. That whole team was different level to now, but you never know. We certainly have the right man to challenge it, he has only had one year.

No I haven't forgotten but Rosenborg have gone there and got a good draw and away goal, that for me says they are no mugs either.

We would beat both. I would rather Rosenborg as there would be less of a media circus.

Rosenborg won convincingly 3-0 away to Sogndal, one of the weaker sides in Eliteserien but still a decent home team. They might be picking up form again.

Was it not Rosenberg that Brattback came from ?

Brattbakk, Riseth, Gamboa and Lustig are all former RBK players.

Rosenborg are by far and away much better than when St.Johnstone beat them in summer of 2013.

That was in a 2nd round Europa League qualifier.

They are back to playing in CL qualifiers the last couple of seasons.

Last season they beat Norrköping in round 2, then were beat 4-2 by APOEL in round 3. Went into a Europa League play off after that, losing 4-2 on agg to Austria Wien.

Played in the 2015-16 Europa group stages with Saint-Étienne, Dnipro and Lazio.

Won 0, drew 2, lost 4. Drawing with Saint-Étienne twice.

That's like comparing todays Celtic to the one you had in the early days of Deila. The team that got battered by a poor Molde-side twice. Teams change from season to season, and Rosenborg has changed a lot since that St. Johnstone tragedy. It was hardly a surprise to us, we were absolutely useless in he 2011-2014 period. 2015 was amazing, 2016 was pretty good and 2017 has been frustrating. Three different teams, but not as bad as it used to be four years ago.

Edit: we have been dreadful in Europe the last few seasons, as you can see in the post above. We got through four qualifying rounds in 2015, beating Steaua Bucuresti in the play off. The group stage was a nightmare, but we blamed it on the lack of experience. Last year was the real test, and we almost managed to beat a very dirty APOEL side in the third round. However, one of our local players decided to give APOEL the one goal they needed in the 90th minute, and we went out.

Dundalk is still the 'easiest' draw. Definitely.

I don't fear Rosenborg at all though, not now. One of their best players is out for a month and their side isn't as good as the Molde or Malmo sides we faced under Deila. Both of which I believe we'd beat now, too.
