Used to live in blackpool, i agree with the sentiment. Though it is tempting to go back for the craic and could meet old friends. But rather go somewhere new.

    Oxford is a nice place

If you're looking for a decent night out, Leeds and Nottingham are good places to go

I would recommend London and the south coast. Eastbourne is very nice. 1:25 hours from London Victoria.

    HA-HA!!!!

I read that most Old Order American Amish people - incorrectly - refer to non-Amish people as "English", regardless of ethnicity. When one of them leaves their community to go shopping to the nearest town by horse coach, they see him off with the message "Beware of the English".

On a typical day you won't see any cutting about and if you do they'll just be people in their normal clothes.

I'd say York as well, it's not the cheapest place in the world, but it has loads of pubs and restaurants, plus it is a nice wee city centre. If you do go check out The House of Trembling Madness. If you can find it. It's a cracking wee pub upstairs from a good (if pricey) craft beer shop, you need to go into the shop to get up to the pub. It's tiny though, so it can be tough to get into depending on the day/time. Most of the pubs do really nice meals, as well as there being plenty restaurants all within easy walking distance.

It isn't full of them, you do get some soldiers but they tend to be NCOs or officers and are no problem to anyone. The squaddies tend to either stay in Catterick or head to my town Darlington.

Yeah Richmond and Darlo would be the two places I would associate with squaddies at a weekend. Though Tony was talking about going midweek.

F**k that i'm English. We're not all Nigel Farage or Clive Tyldsley. Plenty of good, friendly, people here, especially up north.

All the suggestions are in the east, so you'll be going west to east and back to west again.

How about the Lake District? About half way and on the right (correct) side. Stunning scenery, if you like that kind of thing.
