BRENDAN Rodgers says today’s dominant 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock was the perfect way to cap off a memorable week for him and the club.

Six days ago, Celtic sealed their sixth successive league title with a thumping victory away to Hearts, and on Friday, the manager signed a new four-year contract, which will run until June 2021.

The positive mood around Paradise continued this afternoon as goals from Stuart Armstrong, Scott Sinclair and James Forrest saw the champions see off Kilmarnock, who had levelled briefly in the second half through Jordan Jones.

Now unbeaten in 39 league matches since the start of the season, the Hoops have also reached the 90-point mark in the Scottish Premiership, with six games remaining.

Speaking after the game, the manager said: “It was a great day for us. It’s been a fantastic week. We won the league and I have committed the next four years of my life to here. It’s an incredible club to work for, but there is much more to do and achieve.

“I really enjoyed watching the team today. I thought, collectively, they were outstanding and played the shape really well. The crowd enjoyed it and they really understand now what we are doing.

“When you are playing against a team that sits in a real low block, it’s very tough, especially at the beginning, to break down. But we showed patience and quality and worked the ball well in tight spaces and then we got the goal.

“Our only disappointment was defending the counter-attack and the goal we conceded, we could have been better.

“But in the main, we had everything I would want from a team, with our counter-pressing and playing with that lovely arrogance and charisma in the game.

"We always looked exciting and if we could score goals, while we also defended in the main very well. It was a great day all round, a good three points and I’m happy.”

Moussa Dembele made his return from injury as a second-half substitute, while Tom Rogic also got further game-time as he continued his comeback from a lengthy spell on the treatment table.

January signing Eboue Kouassi also made an appearance from the bench in the closing stages of the game.

The Hoops boss added: “It’s just trying to get some game-time into some of the players’ legs. The likes of Tom have been out a while so he got a period during the week and today, and you can see his qualities.

"Moussa has been out for a little bit, but he has come back fresh and he gives us a great platform at the top end of the field.

“Eboue Kouassi, we are just developing him and every single minute he gets on the pitch here gives him greater confidence, and you saw that in the little period he had.

“I have a fantastic squad all fighting to play and some players weren’t even in the 18 or involved, but the players are full of confidence and playing very well.”

Tam Cowan talking about the Manager of the Year award...............

"It's too easy to give it to Brendan Rodgers. If you're looking at someone who can manage, I'd give to Alan Archibald".

    Deary me. :52:

Cowan is being asinine. Brendan is ahead in the stakes just now. If we win the treble it's a home run.

If Celtic are still on course for the Treble and still unbeaten when the award is given then it would be an absolute embarrassment for anyone other than Brendan Rodgers to win it. Cowan's being a hipster me thinks.

There is no doubt Archibald and Jack Ross are two very good young managers.
But they are not in the same league as Brendan Rodgers.

Half the teams in the EPL scenario would absolute * themselves coming to Celtic Park. I don't just mean it would be a fortress, it would become a cemetery for English clubs.. .:rip_1:

Murty would surely win manager of the year

He got the biggest victory in sevcos history when they beat us 1 - 1 at Celtic Park.
