Are we on the same level as PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord though?

(I mean on a global rep scale ie wages, transfers, attraction of players etc)

Would we have got £35 million if we had Depay?

He's not as good as Larsson and we were only getting offered £18 million at the time of his peak

Feyenoord are pretty pish to be honest I'd be confident of beating them with a full strength side.

PSV have a quality young side but it's being picked apart as we speak. Depay away, Willems sure to go, Wijnaldum as well. Ajax have been poor this season but still would give us a proper game on form. All 3 teams mentioned suffer from the same problem as us as well. Big names in football with proud histories but not what they once were because of modern football.

Football has went crazy even in the short time since Larsson has retired as well. Age, league, nationality etc all come into it too IMO.

EDIT: Just noticed you edited the post, *:56: Thought you were meaning quality of side.

I know we could give them a run but I'd say the top tier Dutch league might entice him more than the Scottish, hopefully I'm wrong.

Id say aye, us and Ajax have similar wage-bills/income etc and infact our wagebill is close to PSV and Feyenoord combined, they actually have fairly small wage-bills. If we all went in for a player it'd probably be a toss-up as to who he picked and would probably depend who was in the CL or offered more money, like this season he'd probably pick PSV as they are in the CL although Celtic and Ajax would probably be offering £5k a week or so more in wages but a chance we wont be in the CL.

It's a bit unfair comparing the fees between Depay and Larsson. You have to take into context that the transfer market has changed a lot since Larssons time at Celtic and teams like United pay ridiculous amounts of money for mediocer players, the age difference between the two and the fact that £ was worth more back then than it is now.

Ajax will attempt to scupper Celtic's move for Dutch defender Mitchell Dijks - and secure his signature for half his £1m asking price. Got this from the bbc website? Doubt they will get him for that little so maybe if we offer the actual asking price we could have a big chance

Ajax will get 50% of the transfer fee no matter where he goes. So if they go in for him they will only actually pay half of the price

They'll offer the same amount but due to a 50% clause in his contract they'll then receive half the fee they pay straight back again.

Might actually help us as surely Willem II would be daft to accept the Ajax offer if several teams bid 1 million. As far as I'm aware they are under no obligation to sell to Ajax.

Apparently ajax are only willing to offer hlf of his 1m asking price

Edit: Should have read the last few comments surely if they only offer 500k though then the club is only getting 250k

50% of any fee goes to Ajax. So they won't get the full million regardless.

    I think it's €35m not £'s for Depay.

As for this boy Dijks though, it's about time we got a better LB than Izzy in. As much as we all love him, he's complacent as * and needs to see the bench a few times to get him back to his best.

    http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/05/22/transfer-blow-for-celtic-as-mitchell-dijks-agent-suggests-his-cl/?

Willem II left-back Mitchell Dijks is certainly looking like a player with plenty of interest in his services this summer.

One team keen on his signature is Celtic.

The Scotsman linked Celtic with a £900k move for the Dutch left-back at the start of the month. Dijks, who can also play at centre-back, has played 27 times in Eredivisie this season.

However Celtic are not alone in their pursuit.

This week has seen Feyenoord reportedly speak to Dijks about his future, as claimed by Voetbal International.

Yesterday it was reported by De Telegraaf that Ajax were due to hold talks with the player about a potential return to Amsterdam

The report claimed that Dijks could return to Ajax, with whom he played six games between 2012 and 2014, on a deal until 2018.

That apparent deal seemed to gain momentum overnight. In some circles they were already reporting that the deal was done, and Celtic would lose out on Dijks to the Amsterdam club.

But his agent has now denied that is the case. * van Burik, himself a former professional footballer who played for Hertha Berlin, is his agent and he spoke to Algemeen Dagblad late last night. He confirmed that Ajax was his most likely destination, but that no deal was concluded yet. However, unfortunately for Celtic, he also confirmed it was between Feyenoord and Ajax for his services:

I wouldn't be surprised if celtic were not even looking at him and it was just paper talk.

Ronny has also said our signings will be late in the window after the CL is decided.

The whole thing about us signing folk after CL qualifiers shouldnt be what happens at our club. Last season we signed the Scep for £2.5mil. Think if we forked out another mil on a better player, our whole season could have been transformed. Buy as you mean to perform, an extra million on a proven striker wouldn't bankrupt us.

Your talking like price tag =success.....jg was 3.5 mill to start with and look how that * turned out.

but I have said all along, because of the way the splf runs our season start and finish times, jan should be our main shopping window.

that way guys like Armstrong and gms get bedded into the team before the CL qualifications start.
