Messi is 2 years younger than Roanldo.

In those 1st two years of these stats Messi was playing for Barcelona B before making his debut for Barcelona in September 2005.

At the same time, Ronaldo was playing well for SPorting, then signing for Man Utd.

One's had a 2 year head start. Come back to us when Messi is 29, and compare their stats over their respective years.

    Messi.

Thing is messi has gotten worse he was at his very top on 2011 and has gone downhill not a lot but still has I do think he will be back because there's no way Ronaldo will keep this up

No doubt about that bud. But he has been doing this for 10 years now, I'm surprised it took this long for his 'slump' and even at that we all will still debate who is better. Messi will respark I'm sure as this season continues.

For the record Ronaldo is a * superb player - if it wasn't for Messi, he would be the worlds greatest. Just unfortunate (imo) for him that he lives in the same era as Messi.

Messi has been getting worse while Ronaldo is always getting better.

Ronaldo is a far better athlete in most departments and has been better while Messi was injured and not arsed, he still cant touch Messi in ability though.

Good as Ronaldo is he couldnt dream of doing some of the things Messi is capable of.

It's funny how much Ronaldo has reigned back on his dribbling. Really in the modern game, there is no place for it. It just slows down the pace of the play and allows the defense to regroup and double up on you.

Messi is the better footballer though Ronaldo's on better form. That's pretty much all there is to it, for me. Ronaldo's excellent but I don't see him as the greatest of all time or in that discussion alongside Maradona. I do see Messi in there.

They're equal as goalscorers but as far as all round attacking technique goes there's only one winner. Ronaldo can't play defence splitting passes the way Messi can nor can he dribble his way out of the tight spaces Messi can. Ronaldo's at his best when he's got his defender isolated because he's almost unstoppable in that situation. He'll either do you for pace down the wing and get into the box or he'll cut inside and shoot.

As for the claim that Messi's been getting worse since 2011. Utter nonsense. His best year (and probably the best year of anyone) was in 2012.

Hes picked up Kris Commons syndrome as he's got older, where he's became too bothered about scoring that he doesn't really run with the ball, cross the ball or attempt much to set up other players.

He more stays out the road or passes backwards, so that he himself can get up the park to get on the end of others' work. Rather than him himself creating or kicking off moves for others to get forward.

Where as Messi takes the game by the scruff of the neck more, he gets in amongst the play and attemps to kick things off, basically all the time. Showing in that he averages 19 passes per game more than Ronaldo, 4 x as much dribbling and creates almost double the chances and hits about 3 shots per game less than Ronaldo.

It's mad that Ronaldo's played 2 less games than Messi but been offside 16 times more than him even though Messi plays up through the middle and Ronaldo out wide lol

Don't really care about the stats. Just watch both of them and it's obvious that Messi is the better player.

I think this goes back further to his United days. Fergie helped foster that attitude as he needed him to dig them out of holes due to the inability of his team mates. United have been * for so many years; even back when he was involved, they weren't that great. They've been waning ever since Keane left, pretty much.

But he's played in a lot of top Real sides, and really should be using his team mates more, definitely.

If Ronaldo played in Messis position, without a doubt Ronaldo would be the best in the world

13 of Ronaldo's goals have came against 4 of the bottom 6 in La Liga.
Messi has 5 against the bottom 7.

It's also worth pointing out that Barcelona have reigned back the goal-scoring and have yet to concede in La Liga.

    Ronaldo - 445 goals in 697 games
    Messi - 418 goals in 563 games

They both have 70 champions league goals, Messi in 19 less games.

Since they both played in La Liga

    Messi - 196 goals in 176 games
    Ronaldo - 192 goals in 172 games

    Copa Del Rey
    Messi - 20 goals in 28 games
    Ronaldo - 20 goals in 26 games

    Super Cup
    Messi - 10 goals in 9 games
    Ronaldo - 3 goals in 6 games

    El Classico
    Messi - 21 goals in 28 games. (12 assists)
    Ronaldo - 13 goals in 22 games. (2 assists)
