It's in the pub section and as such shouldn't be taken too seriously. It had to be split from the independence thread to stop it going off topic.

    Yes, i agree.
But most peoples opinions are formed on a county by the people they met from said country. (or by what they read about it)

Its an unfortunate but true aspect of human nature.

Just ask people about N.Korea or Iraq, alot of people think they are all a bunch of lunatics and radical Islamist's respectively.

Yeah, but unless you actually take the time to meet a few million people it's always going to be limited experience, isn't it?

I live in Canada where the Government has actively tried to erase any historical ties with England,
there is a lot of anti English sentiment here.
there are also legion halls with a picture of the Queen hanging in them, but thats the older generation.
when a country successfully conquers and colonizes a quarter of the worlds land mass it can lead to resentment.
However there are many anglophiles all over the world that love English music and culture.
Besides, what most stereotypes consider as English is only a home counties kind of arrogance.
a lot of people I know dont recognize a Geordie or scouse accent as English.
they like them in the Falklands!

I don't think many people have a problem with the average englendar in the uk but more so with that bunch of upper class child fiddling money stealing * that pollute the government and the way they screw anything that stands in their way.

Like others have said for every english * there is a scots/welsh/irish one.

The sooner AS invades england and turns the house of commons into a holiday home the better.

    Make a few substitutions... eg

Try to get out a bit more often and meet people.

    Israel probably.

Most people I've met from all over Europe don't like the English and some(not all) didn't lump the scots in that same category.

This is a bit of sad thread. Can you imagine the uproar if the title was about Scottish or Irish instead?

They wouldn't really be threads worth making though, would they?

Where in the world are the Scots/Irish actually liked?

    Answer? Everywhere! Close thread :icon_mrgreen:

    Agreed.

I'm all for a wee joke and a laugh to poke fun at the English but if it was Scottish, Catholics, black people etc in the title instead of English then there would be uproar, and rightfully so. I don't see how it's any different with the English.

You're right, it's not...shouldn't be singling out one nation over another, I'll need to start making fun of the Irish now :icon_mrgreen:

    Agreed.
