But I did prove it:50: I didn't rely on stories I heard sitting at my grandfathers feet, I went and looked at the data, and realized we do just fine for caps.

As far as Ireland goes I know perfectly well about our ties with Ireland, from a 126 years ago, I also can't fault Irish people for liking ManU or Liverpool...or whoever else they want to like.

Has anybody else than me noticed the last contact between them. I'm starting to think that after having pushed Derk McKay hits slightly Derk's left shoe cleats with the tip of his left shoe.

This results to Derk failing to contract his leg muscles properly and falls down immediately when his left foot hits the ground. It would be nice to have a clip of this from a better angle (from the side view) in slow motion.

The Anatomy of Derk Boerrigter's "diving"

I've a video clip in slow motion now.

What I found is extremely interesting. Firstly McKay doesn't push Derk in any significant way. But there happens much else not easily discernible without a slow motion vid.

Instead of any clear pushing motion when running just behind Derk's left shoulder McKay pulls at Derk's left arm with his right hand from beneath near the armpit. McKay's hand is in the shadow as they're so close to each other but I can see this clearly on the slow motion vid.

Derk raises his hands up and rotates his upper body to the right trying to escape McKay's grasp of his left arm. He is losing some of his stability and unable to shoot the ball into the back of the net.

What happens next is most interesting: it's at the same time most significant and most obscure to see with the naked eye but it is there. It is possible to be seen in slow motion.

After only about 0.4-0.5 seconds from McKay's pull at Derk's arm both players are in the air when McKay hits Derk's left shoe cleats with the tip of his left shoe. Again, on the vid one can see how McKay's left shoe tip turns up as it hits Derk's left shoe cleats so it's pretty powerfull hit.

Derk loses the control of both his legs. His right foot hits the ground, but his right leg is too far streched to allow any support to him. As a result of McKay'* at Derk's left shoe cleats his left leg seems to be fully dead and out of control without any muscle contraction and nerve impulses. Now both his legs are out of control.

Derk rotates his upper body back to the left but it only forces him to lean powerfully to the left and amounts to the total loss of his balance as he is not finding any support to his legs.

:56: This is brilliant. A thesis on big Derk possibly not taking a dive, I take it this is a wind up though? The bit in bold is particularly fascinating. For the record it was a 100% dive.

Diving is one of the worst examples of bad sportsmanship in the game and needs to be stamped out . However we are supposed to be encouraging honest attacking football.
We cannot turn our backs on fast attacking play where the defender is allowed to push , or to pull gently on a player speeding towards goal. It doesn't take much contact for anyone who is running at top speed to fall or to be knocked off stride . If we penalise players who go to ground because we " think the contact " is not sufficient , players maybe afraid to take on the defender , which means defenders always wins .
