This is correct however this has not stopped them annexing a part of it. A part where they have planted their own people to create a majority. They then take control over this area claiming the majority of the people want to be with them. Imagine splitting a country to take control of a part of it.

Why the people of Crimea used there democratic right to join the country they see as there own which isn't surprising considering the majority are ethnic Russian surely what the people of Crimea want is more important than what the western world presume they want

Putin is an Imperialistic * but keep the politics out of football, Unless their is continued violence in 2018 or some evidence comes out about their bid then no they shouldn't take the World Cup away

What is the difference between the Falkland referendum when they decided to stay under the British rule or the Crimean referendum when they chose Russia over Ukraine?

Yes, that is the only way those team to play at the WC.
Why people bother themselves with this? Most of your teams won't qualify anyway, so...
And I don't think footballers would care where this would be played.

As to the question. No Russia should not lose to World Cup over this. They hosted a great Olympics this year and I am looking forward to visiting Russia in 2018. My guess is that this will all have blown over long before then.

People are wrongly assuming that the boycott is being driven by USA and UK. English media seem to moan about any major international event which has not been awarded to them so if anything it is more of an English thing.

You do know that the vote that did take place only took place in the Crimea area right?

I might also add that the Crimea used to have a large Tartar population and they consider the Crimea to be their homeland. But they were forcibly deported on mass by Stalin during the 1940's and replaced by ethnic Russians. Hence why you have a majority Russian population there.
