I just think it's extremely hypocritical for you to call anyone idiotic, and then to say they've shown themselves up in front of the entire forum - when that's exactly what your contribution has been the last few weeks.

All that may be true. I'm merely pointing out the absurdity in people portraying Russia as the good guys in any sort of conflict.

The use of violence in pursuit of political gain. However by that definition the Russian Government is also a terrorist organisation.

He was an ethnic Russian (colonialist scum :smiley-laughing002:).

Russia has been fighting to keep the North Caucuses a part of Russia because it fears an internal domino effect, with other "Republics" like Tatarstan or Bashkortostan following their lead and going independent (or at least stepping up their campaign). Russia lost the First War in Chechnya and Chechnya had de facto independence, which the bandits/terrorists used to launch raids into Dagestan and Ingushetia so this situation is partly their fault, the root cause is of course Russian Tsarist Imperialism.

The North Caucuses doesn't have a huge amount of Oil or what not (and it's not like Russia is going to run dry any time soon). The major Oil in that region is off the coast of Azerbaijan and on the other side of the Caspian Sea on Kazakhstan's coast (remember the police massacring strikers there a few years back?). Both of those countries went relatively peacefully to independence, even with all their Oil.

Oil just isn't the main cause of war in the World, as a lot claim. It seems to be the go to, get out of jail free card that people use to criticise recent wars. The real reason for these wars is to bring these areas back into the world market and produce stability so Capitalism can function competitively. Oil is just another one of those products, like nail polish or lamps.

Plus I don't think we can just label all these conflicts in the region as the classic "Wars of Liberation" due to the ideologies of the groups (most wanting a united Caliphate across the 'Islamic World' to remove Western Imperialism). Plus you have to conflicting moves of Russia, such as supporting Abkhazia but not others.

I know oil/ is not the only reason here, but it is certainly a major factor..Dagestan alone produces 310k tons of oil and 715ml cubic feet of gas per year, not to mention Dagestans 530 miles of oil and gas pipelines (owned by russian companies).

Violent death and war are at an all time low. It just seems worse because of all the information available now. Back in the day people where killing each other over dinner.
