china's got alot of interest in vietnam. See outlying islands and natural resources. they've stolen several of those already. How they can claim them is beyond me. My family in law is from the middle of Vietnam. Cam Ranh. Escaped to Philippines then Australia. lost everything. not much of a history buff, but can't feel too much for the north. having lived in china, I'm not a major fan of the commie lifestyle either. being spied on and what not. no Wikipedia etc... bit * tbh.

Good news - I've found a high quality stream and have been told the funeral will be aired on VTV1.

    http://www.vtc.com.vn/live/9/VTV1.html

Also, I believe throughout the national mourning there will be programmes aired on youth station VTV6 in case any here want to use it to tutor children etc of his accomplishments (although, it would appear many adults need edification on General Giap) so could indeed to be benefical to both young and old. I intend to tune into a few shows myself on this channel.

Streams for VTV6 can also be navigated to on the link provided.

I'm sure the stream will be fine, however there are no English subtitles. I don't believe this will be accommodated until after. Either way such is not needed with the universal understanding of keening (as it should be).

The documentary (which I presume will be available on YouTube soon), General Vo Nguyen Giap : A Century - A life. will be on at 15:00 Vietnam time today on VTV1.

It have no doubt the compatriots who have compiled this will fail in endearing all of the affection of the people of Vietnam when it airs.

    Also, for those interested:

10:45 Vietnam time - General Vo Nguyen Giap : My Idol

And from 14:15, there will be a show before the documentary showing the ways in which General Giap has been used in culture and art. Should be very interesting for anyone intrigued with the ways in which imagery has been used across the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Enjoy! I've got a day ahead of anticipated viewing.

Interesting viewing, but I have to admit, the lack of English subtitles makes it a bit difficult to follow at times.

I'm hoping it will be subbed and put on YouTube.

It was an okay documentary - the imagery was good.

I think one of the Korean channels will put it up.

Vietnam is probably the most beautiful country I've ever been to. Seeing the Cu Chi tunnels changed my life.

What a wonderful adventure! Did you actually go inside part?

A lot pride to be evoked by such willing martyrdom. The sacrifice has paid off and will continue to.

I’ve always admired the Vietnamese people, their unwavering resistance to genocide was one of the greatest human achievements of the twentieth century.

May * shine on their land.

I did. I was only 13 at the time and went as part of a school history trip. They were a tight squeeze!

I also ate at the Pho Binh* noodle bar in Ho Chi Minh where the Americans used to eat (whilst the Vietcong plotted upstairs!)

    Incredible place.

*Sadly the owner, Ngo Toai, had passed months earlier :shamrock:
