I'm not a massive fan of Stokes but I think he is a similar type of striker to Nikica Jelavic when he was at Rangers. If he was croatian we'd all be raving about him. Jelavic never scored over 20 goals in a season for Rangers. I think Stokes could get over 20 this season. He should sign a new contract around December. His representatives and Lawwell will meet in the middle.

If it was Gary Hooper who played like Stokes in the two games so far, everyone would be praising him and going on about how he was such a good player etc. Stokesy was our most dangerous player against Milan. Yes, he was out of his depth against Barca but so was every Celtic player out there. It was Barcelona ffs. His defensive effort was outstanding as was everyone elses. His attacking effort was *, as was everyone elses. Stokes is more than good enough to be starting. Along with Commons, he is our most dangerous player. He creates goals and he scores goals. Who else is going to start before him?

You know, something I've noticed, fans are kinda hypercritical of our creative players these days or players that try something out of the ordinary.

I've no doubt if Stokes run against Karagandy or Commons shot didn't go in they'd be getting lambasted as greedy *. Sometimes the out of the ordinary is what is required, I love a bit of ingenuity in football.

That's definitely true at CP. No-one likes to see a misplaced pass but so many times Commons (he's the only one in our squad who tries tbh) will attempt a through ball to split a defence or a cross-field Steven Gerrard type cross and it will just go wrong or get cut out, and the groans will ring around the place.

Anyway can Stokes please sign the * contract ffs.

Against the very best in Europe, I think our biggest attacking threat by some distance is Samaras in all fairness. Domestically, I would agree with Stokes & Commons being so. I would be interested to see Commons stats in the Champions League after the qualifying rounds, I personally don't think he carries the same threat, but I might be wrong.

Has anyone got stats on Commons for Group games, in terms of assists and goals.

That is a fair point. He did against Milan, and I think he did in the home game against Juve, but that's the only two I can think of. I think because he is a match winner, and comes up with big moments, I just expect a bit more from him in Europe. I might be expecting too much to be honest.

Milan he was terrible, if he was on form we would have won in my opinion. He was brilliant against Juve, just faced a world class defence. All the other games he was practically left or right back.

Anti-Irish thing aside, we have a contempt for ingenuity that doesn't come off. It is to either work every time or they are useless. There is no tolerance for that bit of imagination which is unlucky not to work.

Which of our flair players would you consider to be held in contempt by the celtic support as a whole or considered, generally, to be useless?

I don't think our fans are any different to fans of other teams in that we love inventive, creative play and are disappointed when it doesn't come off.

Thing is with the hyperbole you were using it was hard to figure out what your opinion was unless you were just at it.

I think I got lost early on; at about the same point Random review did. One minute scoring against Ajax ( something he may or may not do) wasn't going to prove anything to you. A few posts later scoring against Ajax "would shut you up."
