For those who are in love.....
I genuinely do think he was a mixed bag tonight. Times he was running with purpose, others he was going nowhere. Times he put in a great tackle, others he was getting caught wide open.
Times he was putting in pin point balls and assisting Armstrong, others he was lazily crossing to no one and passing was to inter players..

Done some amount of running though..

    very good game. stepped up.

Our 4-3-3 does leave the fullbacks exposed as there is not so much winger cover to help him out wide.

Felt like there was two players playing in Matthews jersey , the one that went forward and got the assist and hardly put a foot wrong past the half way , looked like the same player from. 2 years ago. Then the other one playing at right back that did the defending the normal one.

Yeah I agree but all in all he put in a good shift. I'd give him a 7/10.. Did very well for our first as well.

Typical of a lot on here though that he was written off because of a woeful performance against Zagreb even though 1 year ago he got 50% of the votes in a 'who's better?' Poll between himself and Lustig. Fickle doesn't quite cut it.. The boy is excellent back up to have.

The first goal was allllll Matthews. The whole spell, he was top class.

First, he did some nice work to retain the ball near our box. The play went to the left wing, then back to him on the right. Played a 1-2 with Brown at midfield. Then a 1-2 with a Johansen. After all that work, running the length of the field, he had the composure to resist lumping it into Griffiths, which a lot of people would have done. He held the ball, bated the defense, and then played into Armstrong for the goal.

    Can't say enough.

When you think of this and his Barca performance. Talk about a big game player.

People forget that Matthews at his best is every bit as good as Lustig. It's just bringing him back to his best.

:50: Far too many people have forgot just how good a fully fit Matthews can be.

I agree with that to an extent, but they offer different attributes.

Mathews is quicker and provides more assists.

Lustig stronger, a better defender, more of a leader and more consistent(when not injured).

It would be great to have options at LB too.

Aye, there was noting between them at one point. Although I think Lustig has gotten slightly better, the main reason there has been a bit of a gulf between them recently, is down to Matthews being poor. You could see his confidence growing after the first goal last night.

Slated him a few times this seaspn, which I feel was justified. Last night I thought he was great. Still a few wee niggles defensively but also made a few good tackles when they were in dangerous positions. I thought he was motm, not that many agree, but he took the game to them all night and obviously a great assist for the first goal.

Hopefully gives him the confidence to push on and become even better under RD.

Top class. This was his best game in a Celtic shirt. He's shown what he's capable of, just needs to maintain that level.

Think the lad deserves massive credit, after the first 20 minutes I wasn't expecting what I saw for the 70 minutes to follow..... absolutely sensational stuff, and great character to get back up from a bad start to the game.

Guy is what I would call an honest footballer. Not afraid of hard work or putting in a shift. I really like Adam and hope he is regaining his confidence. His work rate for the first goal was incredible and deserves big praise, as do most of the team. 2-1 to us in San Siro.

Last season away to AC Milan too he was superb, he actually started that season in great form and looked as fast and fit as he'd ever been and was flying in that match but then got injured in it and has since never returned to the same level.

Although the past 7/8 games he's came back into decent form, still not at his best though.

Not twice the player, that's doing an on form Matthews a huge disservice.

A better player when fit, aye.

Matthews when he's on form can be outstanding, and he finally showed glimpses of that again on Thursday.

To have a both in form Matthews and Lustig in the team would be great especially with the big run of games coming up in March.
