Never been a massive fan, think he's poor and I'd like us to get another right back or give fisher a go when Lustig is injured.

 

I was amazing to see a stat saying he has played 17 games this season. Still, half the number of his peers. Let's wait until the end of the season and judge him. His potential, IMO, remains great.

His performances have been consistently poor for a while now. He's massively out of form and is costing us goals. Defensively he's as poor a defender atm as I've seen in a long time. After the Aberdeen game I was going to post about how bad defensively he was. 10 yards of McGinn & Hayes when they were in possession, no pressure on the ball, getting turned and outrun over & over again & almost always giving the ball away etc but I couldn't be arsed. Well last night was more of the same. At least 2 goals I could attribute to his crap defending and the amount of times he gives the ball away or is easily beaten to it is criminal. Rightly substituted & should be benched for the forseeable future & I'd consider getting rid in the summer. The days of shackling Messi are long gone.

 

I like Matthews, if he can stay fit, get back to full fitness and match sharpness with a good run of games then he will be far better than his form of late. I would play Lustig over him though

 

He's only 22, he will come good again

 

It looks like he doesn't care and is just going though the motions. Don't see much drive/passion at all from him. Used to be class as well.

 

probably after last night he,ll be putting more pressure on himself than any criticism papers and fans dish out .

 

He's had one bad game. Doesn't take away from his previous 4 years of consistently good performances from him.

 

There'll be many factors as to why he's a shadow of the messi stopper..

Injuries, confidence etc can all be taken in to account but for me he looks weaker than ever slightly slower than ever and lost his desire to get on the end of things..
I'm not sure if there's anything in him maybe wanting away but for me, he's playing like a guy who doesn't want to fight or give everything for the cause/the jersey at the minute and for me that is just not good enough..

Woefully bad as a defender, can't cross (hits first man all the time), seems to get the jitters when on the ball rather than use his half decent pace.

I believe out of all the RB's we have, he is the weakest (that includes Efe).

 

He's been below par for a while now, last night he was exceptionally poor.

As I said earlier in the thread, we've got a top quality RB in Lustig and a good understudy in Fisher. We can sell Matthews for a good price and reinvest the money into areas of the squad that need it.

 

He's defo missing his good mate Ledley.

He played well tonight, only the 2nd time he's played well in the past about 10 games though. Needs to consistantly play like this, don't know whats happened to him this season, he's usually a slow recover getting back to his best from injury but he's been really poor this season.

Weird too as it's not like he lacks anything, he should just be playing with more confidence.

 

He played well enough but it's the same problem with him, his final ball is really poor.

In the first half he was in a fantastic position 3 times - inside the box almost at the byline and every time he crossed it straight to a Killie player. Needs to work on that.
