I saw it on Monday, i thought it was excellent.

One thing though. I thought the fight seen with the Goblins was average. Just never got the feeling anyone was gonna get hurt at all.

other than that i love it

I was very disappointed by it, not what I was expecting and I'm a big lord of the rings fan as well.

I expected more it seems they have been dragging it out to spread it over 3 films!

I really enjoyed it though I am at a loss to explain how they've managed to take such a short book (just finished reading it over the last 2 days!) and get three films out of it.

Was a bit slow starting up though I loved how atmospheric it was when the dwarves were singing in Bilbo's house at the start. Really set the tone of the film which you didn't really get in the book. :50:

That's the part that I disliked most as well :56:, probably because it was at that point that it wasn't going to be like what I expected.

There's a DVD Screener out of this already, perfect copy apart from a wee watermark in the middle of the screen. Got mine from isohunt.

this was one of the best films of the year, I actually prefered the hobbit to trilogy as to me it was a better book. The reason why they have managed to get so much out of it is because they used previously unused material from the fellowship of the ring and also a lot was taken from the appendices at the end of the return of the king.

The material from the appendices were things which happened at the same time as the hobbit but were not central to the story because Tolkein wanted the Dwarven story to be more of a childrens story, hence the great use of humour throughout which I thought was spot on.

    overall 9/10

Did anyone notice that James Nesbitt played one of the dwarfs?

Watched it last night, will say that it is the weakest of Peter Jacksons projects in Middle Earth, though still a good film. Hopefully this is just a warm up for the other two films but.

The problem is the LOTR trilogy was actually written in 3 different books where as The Hobbit is just one book split into 3 parts which is my only worry

Don't think he has had as much creative freedom when making the hobbit though as he did when making tlor trilogy. The studio/producers seem to have a bigger input in this. Still done a great job though.
