Would be fantastic. Legend of the game, and Italians do tend to keep themselves in top physical condition. Del Piero stepping up and smashing a free kick into the back of the net wearing the hoops.... :50:

Hopefully him having played in front of a rammed Celtic park before and seeing what it's like might be a persuading factor

barely a kick in the balls off it! Maybe a few years ago, would rather the money was spent on some young talent not a 37 year old :icon_mrgreen:

People acting like he can't cut it anymore - he played 30 times odd last season for the team that won Serie A. That's the same amount of game time as Ryan Giggs. Would you all be saying he couldn't cut it if we were in for him too?

Exactly. The current squad is lacking in big game experience, so even if he's used sparingly in the SPL he could be an impact player for us in Europe.

Why are we going for this guy? He is 37 years old and will ask for a massive pay packet so stupid IMO.

We miss out on Henriksen and go for a has been instead!

    Kyogo. A phenomenon

    Exactly. Well put.

I wouldn't * a vast amount of wages on him - however, if he wanted a crack at playing in front of 50k+ fans every other week, as well as CL fitba for probably the last time in his career, then Celtic would surely be rather appealing.

The * weather and the away grounds would be the detractory points, obviously.

His experience alone is worth a deal. This is Del * Piero we are talking about.

I can't help but feel this is wishful thinking on the part of many. That said he has stated previously he loves the atmosphere our fans create and if Peter and Lenny do pull this one off it would be a win win situation. Though we still need to badly get the CB position sorted first.

Listening to Lenny's comments after last night I think we have our targets already agreed to in principal and just need to arrange the medicals. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if shortly after the draw or early Friday morning at least one signing is revealed.

Either way by Friday 11pm we will know for sure who is coming in and if one happens to be DP then you can guarantee extra bums on seats.

With that answer I'd refer you back to my first post about this. Doubt you watch Serie A much tbh. And are basing it solely on age rather than any real footballing opinion.

I back up SM67 on this one. Del Pieros genius has definitely not left him.

The problem is we can no longer offer the Old Firm games, which was a massive draw to overseas players.

He may like the idea of Champions League, but playing weekly at places like Motherwell, St Mirren and Ross County?

He'll end up playing in the MLS I think.

A few people suggesting we go for youth instead. Last night, Kris Commons was the oldest player on the park for us at the age of 28. As much as i love the fact we youngsters coming through the ranks and beginning to make a name for themselves, we need experience for the Champions League. The man was still playing on a regular basis last year at the side that won Serie A. That, in no way suggests that he is a has been. Had he not kicked a ball last season then it would be a different story. He would do the forward thinking players absolute no end of good in my opinion.

Age is not an issue for me, I remember we all said the same things when a certain Mr Moravcik joined the ranks, he was unproven as well!

Just tell him we'll play them in the Cups.

    Which we probably will.
